Brown Won. Now What?
Brown won because this healthcare bill sells out the public. The insurance companies and Pharma wrote the bill, and even people who don’t pay attention to what’s going on can tell it’s abysmal. The polls show that people were behind this bill when it was something that would have helped the country - when that changed, so did the polls.

Like I used to tell those who supported Bush and his policies, “if you do the wrong thing for the wrong reason, don’t expect good results.” People should hold a fealty to reality and truth. And if people draw the wrong conclusions from yesterday’s results, then they can expect more of the same in the near future.

A year or so ago a good portion of the country was looking forward to a government that valued people over corporations, that valued reality over talking points and valued truth over lies. They have been disappointed.

To those on the right who are still spouting off about socialism/communism, etc., please, just a quick look at the insurance companies stock will put to rest that lie. There is nothing resembling socialism in this bill, whatsoever.

To those in the MSM who propagate the falsehood that the right is protesting in good faith while they protest non-existent provisions like death panels, and the left is whining because they wanted the world to change overnight. Very few are buying that version of reality. People who know they have been sold-out and lied to will not change their tune because you called them names. And for the record, nobody expected change overnight - but they did expect a change in direction.

To the Democrats in power and to those who have supported this healthcare bill no matter how far it veered from its intent, you are not doing the country or your party any favors - especially when resorting to deriding those pointing out true flaws. If you want to help the country and by extension your party, work to fire Geithner and Summers; put oversight on the Fed, put some rules on casino banking, and work on the unemployment issue. But first and foremost, kill this healthcare bill and work to extend Medicare.

You don’t even need 60 votes.

1. Look on the bright side
The President has another Republican to work his bipartisan wiles on.

3. It's sad.
I used to think the vast majority of posters here lived in the reality based community, but increasingly I see that's not necessarily the case. Partisan blinders should have been left behind with the LAST administration.

4. I know
2008:
1,104,284 McCain
1,891,083 Obama

1,168,107 Brown + 64,000 more than McCain
1,058,682 Coakley - 830,000 less than Obama
_________

109,325 vote difference

The pubbies got a 10% increase in votes in the off year
and the dems a decrease of almost 40%?

Wow, that's some shift. The numbers seem incredible.

9. Overall the Republicans still aren't polling well
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 02:49 PM by ihavenobias
No one argues otherwise. Well, maybe Fox and the RNC. But if Dems continue to move in a corporate/right direction (and clearly they are, to anyone who's not insanely partisan), we'll continue to lose. You want to see an incredible shift? Just look at the increasing disgust, anger and frustration on these boards from a year ago up until today. If you could quantify that into numbers, it sure would be a scary sight.

And trust me, it's not as isolated to this forum as some would like to think.

12. And they're not even helping their own cause.
It's just like in 2003 when a right winger said "You're a traitor!" when someone pointed out, maybe they don't want to be bombed.

Being called names when you're stating facts, never changed anyone's mind.

6. At least Lieberman is no longer King
Think about it, he had to be coddled every step of the way on every single bill because he was that precious 60th vote.

I doubt that's occurred to many people yet. It needs to.

7. Demand recount, don't seat him, and tie him up in legalities for about 7 months or so...
Al Franken may have learned a thing or two about how that can happen.

25. The Dems need to do
what the republicans do. Not splinter off, not demand some pet project be added to a bill. They need to vote as a block, just for once and get a decent HCR bill passed.

I am so sick of the Blue Dogs and their pet concerns.

If we can't make this happen then maybe we deserve to be ruled by corporate overlords. Seems to be what a good majority of the people of this country want.

Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 12:22 AM by GreenTea
Lieberman should be thrown out of his democratic chairmanship on his ass and stomped on....His "60th" vote (was always bullshit) that he held the democratic party hostage to and back-stabbed every progressive Dem when we could least afford it.

Lieberman campaigned for republican McCain, Lieberman is NOT a democrat, he's an Independent who votes with republicans....Kick fucking Lieberman in the ass and send him on his way back across the isle to the republicans, let them have this two-faced, lying unethical shameless pile of shit Lieberman, he fits into the slimy republican party perfectly.
