Prop 8 foes sued over trial-tracking Web site
Prop 8 foes sued over trial-tracking Web site

SACRAMENTO, CA - In yet another dispute stemming from a landmark trial to determine the future of same-sex marriage in California, a group offering trial updates is being sued over its parody of the Proposition 8 logo.

The Courage Campaign Institute Web site has been offering daily updates on the trial that began last week in San Francisco federal court. The site includes a modified logo used by ProtectMarriage.com, the primary sponsor of Prop 8, which banned gay marriage. The modified logo shows two women with two children.

In a sideshow lawsuit filed Tuesday in Sacramento federal court, ProtectMarriage accuses the Courage Campaign of trademark infringement and unfair competition. The suit claims the anti-Prop 8 group ignored a demand last week to remove the logo from its Web site.

The suit seeks a court order shutting down the Web site until the logo is removed. ProtectMarriage also seeks unspecified money damages and legal fees.

Courage Campaign founder Rick Jacobs issued a statement regarding the lawsuit. "This is yet another attempt by Prop 8 supporters to distract from the facts being brought forth at this trial," he wrote. The organization said it would not remove the logo.

The Supreme Court's Favorite Hustler Parody...

This is a good one but it's not my favorite--that goes to the 1984 Olympics parody ad. Remember all the "official _____ of the 1984 Olympics" ads? This one was from Merck, Sharpe & Dohme, manufacturers of the Official Steroids of the 1984 Olympics.
