I love being a raging liberal on Facebook. I've alienated about 80% of my friend's list.

I'm sure a good number of my old classmates who chose to "friend" me, now rue the day lol. I've found some kindred spirits but for the most part my rants get little response. Kind of like around here lately lol. At least I haven't lost my talent for pissing people off with my extreme cynicism. Gotta keep sharp.

2. What I love is when a fb friend and I are having a discussion about something political
And then a wingnut friend of that friend pops in to "school" me with the latest talking points he got from Rush. It is ON when that happens. Facebook ain't beanbag.

3. I stopped doing comments on some polls
I was starting to get some very angry sounding PMs after a couple religious discussions. Then I realized my real name is out there. Fuck that. I keep it to friends of friends only now. And even some of them I wouldn't trust.

5. Got me. Maybe because FB facilitates the masses staying asleep if they want.
90% of my friends post the most inane shit: This is what I had for dinner tonight, my feet hurt, I did something stupid today etc. etc. etc.

15. Well it isn't a political message board like DU. I do get
tired of the inane posts from people, but people are just going about their daily business and letting the rest of us know. I typically stay away from most of the political chats on FB because that isn't why I use FB. I like to be able to keep up with old friends and family that I would otherwise have not much contact with.

I am amazed how many right wing people there are on facebook. People that I never would have pegged as so. It is kind of creepy.

19. You're kidding!
They're crawling all over the place. It's horrible.

But then, I made the mistake of playing those stupid games and now my whole account is overrun with people I don't know, most of whom are RW religious nutjobs.

12. yes same here.
only about 20% of my friends on FB are Democratic/liberal.. the rest are far-right nutcases who either post asinine rightie talking points, or use FB as a pulpit and preach to everyone.

It may have a lot to do with the area I live in, though; my county is redder than red.

7. LOL - Got into it on Facebook last night w/my cousin's RWer friends
I posted on my cousin's wall and all his RWer stupids crawled out of the woodwork.

You wouldn't believe the crap they posted. I started having fun with it, they started losing their cool.

Got 40+ responses & it was their gloating thread (MA election)!

There are so many RW morons populating the pages of people I know, I finally thought "what the hell!"

They had obviously never been challenged on their positions. One particularly nasty one said she only liked to talk to people of like mind.
She loves her some Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and Glen Beckkk.

DU has made me really, really good at handling these morons.

Funniest part.....I checked back today and they are all just hanging around waiting for me to show back up - bwahahaha!

My cousin, however, should be ashamed of himself for stirring the pot.

10. The internet - including Facebook - has been a great source of entertainment
Last night, one of my FB friends posted something along the lines of thanking God for the miracle of Scott Brown winning. I posted into my profile about how despite the loss, we can still thank God for giving us Obama and democratic majorities who are working to try and turn the country around after the republicans put it in a hole. THANK YOU, JESUS!

In parentheses, I put, "Appropriating God for your political views is fun; I see why republicans do it."

Even people I don't remember from school even if they remember me. Such is the curse of a teacher's son. These people all had my mother for Art.

20. There are Friends and then there are Friends
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 11:07 PM by steveorg
Most of my real friends - the ones who are friends outside of Facebook - tend to have palatable viewpoints. It's the reconnected Friends from my past that are more of a problem. Maybe there was a reason why we lost touch in the first place! :P

24. I have been open about my political views on FB, but
I have tried to be 'civil' with the repubs and haven't really blasted anyone. That's about to end. My daughter's ex-husband and his current wife (with whom my grandchildren live half of every week) are on my friends list. They are nice enough people (for ignorant republicans) but she is pissing me off with all her gloating about Scott Brown. And all her responses have been from equally clueless people.

I was just thinking today when I was driving home from work about writing a scathing rant about how much I LOATHE fucking republicans, especially today, those ignorant, self-centered, greedy assholes who do everything in their power to keep anything of substance from changing for the better in this country.

I might even say, "Fuck you, Republicans. If you don't like what I'm saying, UNFRIEND ME. I need to clean up my friends list anyway".

25. I hear ya. I've run into several Obamacare/Palin dingleberries.
The "friends"(which really are friends IRL) don't bother posting stupid repuke shit to my wall anymore - which is fabulous. It's the few friends of friends that piss me off and get told off.

Everyone else fits into the progressive category. YAY!

Keep fighting the good fight :)
