Surprise! Dianne Feinstein sez “slow down” on health reform, forget climate change!
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 11:20 PM by Bluebear
I haven't been this inspired by her since she said that marriage equality was "too much, too fast, too soon".

====

California Democrat Dianne Feinstein, for one, said the election of Republican Scott Brown in Massachusetts shows the fundamental political landscape has shifted and Democrats across the country have to take note, focusing on how to create jobs and keep people in their homes instead of trying to explain the need for sweeping social programs.

“I can tell you the situation has changed dramatically. And I think it’s a sweep across the country and I think that the (White House Economic Adviser) Larry Summers’s of the world have to see it, the administration has to see it and we have to see it. And Therefore everything is jobs and the economy and education. People are worried about education,” she said.

“You see anger. People are worried. And when they’re worried they don’t want to take on a broad new responsibility,” like health care reform, she said.

Feinstein said it is clear that attempts to pass sweeping legislation to address climate change by capping carbon emissions cannot pass this Congress.

And on health reform, she implied it might be an issue more easily passed in a better economy.

I think we do go slower on health care. People do not understand it. it is so big it is beyond their comprehension. And if you don’t understand it when somebody tells you it does this or it does that and It’s not true, you tend to believe it, even though it isn’t true. It’s hard to debunk all of the myths that are out there.”

12. Shit - I met her when she was only on the "Air Resouces Board"
She was a "Professional Politician" then - only in it for Power and Money

I also met Boxer - now her I liked, a REAL people person, although when I first met her she lost that race. Very happy she won the next race and has continued to serve in Washington ever since.

4. You could have just posted "Another Democrat Lies Down, Plays Dead!"
At some point we just have to wake up and see what's going on around us. We've been had and nothing will change while these corporatists remain in charge.

11. yep this is true
I believe they think we are all stupid. what we need to do is join bold solid progressive movements and get candidates to challenge them in primaries

they are ALL just a little too comfortable in their jobs

13. Well, there's also the fact that she owes her entire career to a psycho killer
Without the murders of George Moscone and Harvey Milk, it's doubtful her political career would have gone beyond the SF city council.

Bet she owns stock in the Hostess Twinkie company along with all of the "defense" contractor money her husband brings in.

10. She's right about debunking all the myths
It's hard to take any poll seriously when they're answers are based on lies they've been told.

Maybe it would be better to pass the insurance reform in one section and the public option in another, with the public option coming first.

We can't forget climate change. If it's the biggest crisis we face, it has to be done. And they have to figure out how to break it down small enough so the myths can be fought.

14. She's telling the truth
The jobs situation is critical and can't wait any longer, that is a big sticking point for most voters. Health care is hard sale when other issues are back burned for it.

16. It's amazing how fucking stupid & ignorant Dems like Feinstein are - they just don't fucking get it.
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 12:03 AM by GreenTea
People want massive change like health care with a Public Option - and here's another democrat, Feinstein content and happy wanting to keep the status quo....(Dems like Feinstein probably do get it, but they just don't give a fuck, they want to keep that profitable status quo more than anything).

Yeah right, Feinstein talks about jobs, jobs aren't going to happen overnight....so let's just forget about everything else and just sit and wait for jobs to come, another year, two years, three more years....Feinstein like all the blue dogs, DLC Dems and frightened of the republicans and want to be just like them tell us to keep waiting for change some day it will happen....maybe the corporations will be less powerful in fifty years....then we can start to make change...

Feinstein should be hung by her thumbs for her bullshit republican remarks, that she always fucking makes...my senator has always leaned towards the republicans and corporate money, even when she was mayor of SF which she got by default When Moscone & Milk went down...Feinstein is an asshole republican, who like so many other Dems in power, knew they could never get elected unless they had a "D" next to their name.

18. i am voting for Boxer and Lee again this year, yet i cannot vote for Feinstein again
i want her primaried and out. i am registered GOP (which i've said countless times on this message board) so i try to do my best to find a sane candidate to primary in my party, but it's more like spitting into the wind. the GOP is batshit insane -- they just have excellent and laughably entertaining propaganda, the high gloss makes great decoupage.

that said, i know i'm voting for Boxer and Lee this year. they are excellent. however when Feinstein comes up in a few more years, i cannot possibly vote for her again. please don't put me in a lesser of two evils position again. she just needs to go. i cannot take her madness anymore.

26. just told you, they have beautiful propaganda. quite entertaining from sociological viewpoint.
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 04:58 AM by NuttyFluffers
once upon a time i cared about putting my two cents in the primaries and try to get better (less crazy) candidates. however, republicans don't have primaries, they have coronations. so i was left with very entertaining propaganda. occasionally i'll mention what they are saying here just so people know what sort of madness is being spewed, but overall it's very predictable. it's also funny to hear voice mail recordings of famous people spewing nonsense on your answering machine.

but be careful, never let your democratic party get screwed into switching from primaries to coronations. you have to kick DLC and similar ilk out, otherwise you'll be stuck in the similar ineffectual place i am in my party. one party with no options is bad enough, two and it's game over, might as well go country shopping and wait for fascism to collapse this joke of an empire.

edit: PS: every penny they spend on advertisements on me is one less mindless target, a good espionage of their madness, and less money for them to add high gloss to their bulk mailings. i noticed that there must have been other people like me, but they were clever to mail bricks w/ the GOP's pre-paid envelopes, because now they don't readily offer pre-paid envelopes in every mail petition. obviously i'm not alone, just quieter. :)

22. When she broke ranks to support Mukasey and telecom immunity... I knew I'd never vote for her again.
Now I'm even willing to "Brown" her, if it comes to that. With any luck she'll recognize that she's senile and will not bother to run again... but I'm guessing she's addicted to the power, and her husband's addicted to having her power supporting his many and variegated business interests... and unfortunately there may not be anyone willing to show up to primary her...

Schwarzenegger, DiFi, and Prop 8... it's embarrassing sometimes to be a Californian.
