Rachel Maddow should run for MA Senate in 2012 |
|
Sorry for the post-and-run, but I have a flight to catch.
As former residents of Massachusetts, my wife and I were talking last night about Rachel Maddow running in 2012 for the Senate seat Brown just won. She maintains a residence in Massachusetts, is well-known in the western part of the state, and appears to be a committed Democrat from her consistent support of Obama. The MA Dems will have their best shot at getting the seat back if somebody "famous" runs.
Think that could work?

I understand the conventional wisdom, that nobody wants to vote for a big scary liberal, but two days after the Republicans won Kennedy's seat is not a good time to be relying on conventional wisdom.

7. sure. how many reasons do you need? start with this: |
|
she has never run for political office before. This isn't the time to put a neophyte campaigner up.
She has no experience in governing.
She's a talk show personality who's almost certainly said things that will make great copy for the Brown folks.

just wondering - how is it she is well known in western Mass, other than she lives there? She lives about 25 miles north east of me and I invited her and her spouse out to dinner with my wife and I, but never got a response.
She should do a better job being generous with her personal time with all her fans that live within 25 miles of her. If you ask me.
Rachel serving in the Senate in Teddy's seat would be magnificent!

11. Perhaps she just thought that was creepy. |
|
I sure wouldn't accept an invitation to dinner from a complete stranger!
Would anyone?

Yes, it was creepy.
But, you never know. It was really mostly a fan letter and I'm not bitter.
Also, Rachel and I both drive Ford Rangers. We're almost separated at birth, if I wasn't 20 years older than she is.

who could really use a "facetious" emoticon for my posts.

6. Sorry, but talk show people rarely make good politicans. |
|
On your show, you look good because you control the subject, dialogue, and can shut off any viewpoints you don't like. You can also pre-research whatever you know will come up. In politics you can rarely control any of these things.

19. I can see your logic... |
|
But, I get nervous when highly qualified, long-time Democratic insiders run against Republican pretty-boys for statewide office in MA. Shannon O'Brien and Martha Coakley are just the two most recent examples.

23. Martha Coakley is hardly a good example |

and shouldn't be compared with reps like Markey and Capuano. One more time. Maddow has ZERO experience either in governing or campaigning. How come that doesn't make you MORE nervous. Oh, and Brown had a lot of experience in campaigning. Much as it might comfort you to believe it, he ws not merely some pretty boy.
