Shumer: We will regret the day this decision was issued. |
|
Speaking now. Said the Court has decided who wins next November, it won't be republican or democrat. it will be corporate America.

41. Hyperbole much? Damn. And no, I don't agree with this decision |
|
Have you ever visited a country that is an actual dictatorship? I really doubt it. This supreme court decision is bad, but it is far from the 'final fascist nail'. This kind of hyperbole alienates people who should be more aware of the issue and whose support is needed to fight it, by painting a picture of contemporary society that is just as misleading as corporate propaganda. It's perplexing to me that you choose to adopt the very communication tactics you would object to from corporate sponsors.
But hey, have at it with your cheap sloganeering. go ahead and reduce debate about serious and important issues to soundbites and cliche. You too can be part of the media white noise which turns more and more people away from voting at all, or leaves them voting on the basis of whim an emotion when they do show up at the ballot box.
I am strongly opposed to unlimited spend for corporate political speech, and think the reporting requirements that remain in place are deeply inadequate. It will make it easier for corporations to wage large-scale astroturf campaigns with the intent of changing electoral outcomes, while concealing the true origin of the messages they send to voters. I'm also opposed to slogans and buzzwords as vehicles of communication, no matter which side is putting them out...if I want pre-canned opinions I can use a tape recorder or a ringtone.

4. Our 'government' just became irrelevant. |
|
utterly and completely.
they were already too spineless to stand up to the monopolies and trusts; now it will take a true political Superman to effect the slightest real change at all. Our system no longer creates Supermen. It creates functionaries.
This country is finished, and the last, best hope for our species with it.
Let's party! If ever there was a time for nihilism it is now.

Any true American, be they either Republican or Democrat or any variation in between, should be outraged by this. This goes beyond party lines, this just sets up the Corporate Party of America to rule this country for years to come.

15. It Takes More Than That... |
|
It would require a Constitutional Ammendment to overrule a SCOTUS ruling. A "bill" just like the McCain-Feingold would be taken to court and back to the SCOTUS where they'd just restate what they said today. Alas, getting a Constitutional ammendment will be almost impossible as it would require 2/3rds of the House, Senate and then the states. As Sen. Schumer said today...we're screwed. The best hope would be to wait until Kennedy or another of the conservatives leave the court...replace them with a liberal/progressive and try it again.

38. Schumer worked actively AGAINST a filibuster of Alito. Planted smears against Kerry in the press |
|
questioning his motives when Kerry was doing it because Kennedy wanted to but could not and because Kerry PROMISED he'd do it back in 2002 if Bush nominated an antichoice candidate for the Supreme Court.
Schumer is one of the worst backstabbing Dems in office today. He certainly has some left blogs snowed, though.

28. Schumer makes statements like this PUBLICLY, but, is right now working against Climate Change bill |
|
and wants it pushed back in favor of Immigration Reform issue which he wants to lead.
IMO, he only wants enough Dems to lose in November so he can be Majority Leader.
Left bloggers should know by now that Schumer's been blowing smoke up their butts while paying lip service to healthcare...behind the scenes he's NOT to be trusted. This is the man who worked to STOP the filibuster of the fascist Alito.

|
This is an outrageous decision by the Supreme Court. Talk about ignoring the will the American people who are sick and tired of special interests' groups money influencing our politics.
When I saw the vote was 5-4, I already knew which of the justices voted on which side.
Scalia (Reagan appointee) Kennedy (Reagan appointee) Thomas (Bush I appointee) Roberts (Bush II appointee) Alito (Bush II appointee)
Stevens (Ford appointee) Ginsburg (Clinton appointee) Breyer (Clinton appointee) Sotomayor (Obama appointee)
Tell me, am I right? :eyes:

even though he is RIGHT NOW working to stop Climate Change bill from being a priority issue for Dems.
He is trying to force Senate to move Immigration Reform ahead of Climate Change ....in an election year where he knows Reid is very vulnerable. Schumer wants to be Majority Leader. I don't like Reid, but, he's alot more trustworthy than Schumer, who is a complete snake.
