Republicans Play Chess, Democrats Glue Their Balls to Their Thighs |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 01:31 PM by Political Heretic
"This isn't about Republicans playing checkers while Democrats play chess. This is Republicans playing chess while Democrats are in the nurses office because, once again, they've glued their balls to their thighs."
- Jon Stewart, on Mass. Election.
Frankly, on the broader state of the Democratic national party in general.
I'm critical and I'm angry because I WANT people to take over the Democratic Party that is dominated by political power grabs and corporate money interests. I want the Democratic Party to change, or I want us to move it out of the way and make way for something new. One or the other.

1. It exposes how inept the Democrats are. They can't win an |
|
election in Mass, when it is the ONLY election going on in the country.

3. a seat the was Democratic for decades..and was held by a man who |
|
was virtually worshipped by his constituency..in a state that was supposed to have one of the best Democratic machines in the country.
What the hell is wrong with that picture???

15. Kennedy had arguably one of the best staff on the Hill and at home. Coakley didn't use them. |

9. I don't think they're inept at all. |
|
If they were *this* inept, they'd be unable to feed or dress themselves. What they're doing is intentional. There's no other way it makes sense.

2. It seems to be more and more obvious.....that is the way it is... |
|
I laughed when he said that..but I am not laughing anymore...
Besides, even if I was laughing, no one would be able to hear me over the hysterical laughter of the repukes.

it is a natural desire of people to assume collusion when mere incompetence will suffice.
it's also silly.
this is a story as old as civilization.
the ancient greeks had a word for it...
hubris...
coakley thought she was entitled to the "kennedy seat".
people who think they are entitled to have stuff handed to them, don't work very hard.
ask any employer.
ever work with somebody like that? i do and have.
for pete's sake, BARNSTABLE went 60/40 for brown.

5. oh bullshit. whatever game they play, they point finger in other way and then move piece |
|
illegally.
they cheat and lie their way thru. it is nothing about honor. like a good intellectual game of chess. it is about pulling a card from the sleeve, or moving a piece or anything else dishonest

17. What about gluing your balls to your thigh? Should he have included "vulva" |
|
You're right, the non-sexist version of that joke would be "The Democrats are gluing their balls and vulva to their thighs."

19. That's my point. "Balls" was not a sign of strength in this case. We don't have to flip out |
|
any time someone says "balls." In fact, Stewart was talking about literal balls in this case, not the figurative ones that upset some people when used as a symbol of strength.

7. at least 57 or 58 seats in the senate |
|
once you eliminate a couple who can't be depended on for a vote.
Bush passed his agenda less of a majority.
make it work. it's too important to lose.
and if it's a matter of "oh shit, we might lose in November," i say this : it's not November yet. push a progressive agenda. if you're going to lose, lose on your principles. don't lose trying to appease unreleasable Republicans.

12. You can't suck on the corporate teat and represent the people simultaneously. |
|
It's impossible to do both with any authenticity.
Democrats suck on the corporate teat and then try to enact legislation for the people (which goes directly against corporate interests.) In order to keep sucking corporate dollars, they have to weaken their legislative agenda, which makes the whole party look like pussies.
The Republicans suck the corporate teat and have no interest in representing the people. At least they're authentic and don't look weak.
Have no idea how to rectify this, particularly considering today's Supreme Court decision. Corporate money is going to be the cash cow of elections for the next generation.

16. Again, if I wanted to throw an election in Mass, the easiest way would be to call Schilling a Yankee |
|
or Yankees fan. That's just election throwing 101.
And now, the Democrats in the Senate got a Get Out of Expectations Free card.
Not to be too tin-foily, just saying.
