White House: Obama's "plate full". Move health care to "back burner" to "let dust settle"
The White House will move health care reform to the back burner, in order to "let the dust settle" after Democrats lost their Senate super-majority.

Asked today if health care was on the back burner, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said, "The president believes it is the exact right thing to do by giving this some time, by letting the dust settle, if you will, and looking for the best path forward."...

He also noted that President Obama "has a very full plate" with financial reform, the economy, the wars and other matters.

10. 'relentless'
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 04:28 PM by bigtree
"Last month, I announced some additional targeted steps to spur private sector hiring and boost small businesses by building on the tax cuts in the Recovery Act and increasing access to the loans they desperately need to grow. I said we'd rebuild and modernize even more of our transportation and communication networks across the country, in addition to the infrastructure projects that are already scheduled to come online this year. I called for the extension of emergency relief to help hurting Americans who've lost their jobs. And you can expect a continued, sustained and relentless effort to create good jobs for the American people. I will not rest until we've gotten there. (Applause.)"

6. Good. He should have left health care alone
for a few years anyway. Last year should have been about jobs, clean energy, and rebuilding infrastructure (the latter two equal jobs). That would have been a win/win agenda.

7. There's a wasted year, and possibly a wasted presidency.
Does this White House even have a clue?

11. whatever they bring forward will be met with the same force against it as hcr
they are determined for this to be a failed presidency. they will do NOTHING to advance any positive agenda for the President.

13. NOW his plate is full?
It's the old " I think we should start seeing other people" line.
Most of us know what that means when we hear it.

He inherited a lot and his plate was full, you know.

17. ok. So, we take off the rights thing, and the health thing,
and he appointed, then RE-appointed two robbers for the economy thing,
and found time to EXPAND the war thing.plus he has all those czars to keep an eye on the major
"things"....
and so, without hardly a murmur, health care dies.
Well, OUR heatlh care. I am sure now that they have decided to "parcel out" separate issues for
legislating, those will pass. The parts that benefit the insurance companies will pass.

20. Yes. Don't get me wrong, finance reform is great, but ...
Didn't we just waste a whole year on health care reform with nothing to show for it?

Just walking away from that one will be counted in the Loss column by most voters, I fear. And you know Murdoch/GOP/JesusBurger Corp. will run attack ads on this issue 24/7 before every election for the next 2-4 years.

Keeping to a schedule is fine, but you don't forfeit a game just because it's going into extra innings.

15. If he's pausing to reconsider the direction of things (corporatism) then good. If it's just
to divert attention and try to ram it through on the down low, then bad.
