On one hand, he is (correctly) arguing that marriage rights should be extended to all Americans, including GLBT.
On the other hand, he argued today (and won) that corporations have the same first amendment rights as individuals... even though the founders CLEARLY stated that the bill of rights are individual rights.
We hear the NRA all the time argue that the 2nd amendment is an INDIVIDUAL right. Well then, so is the 1st amendment.
Ted Olson is on the side of the angels with respect to equal marriage rights.
But he's on the side of evil with respect to today's ruling in the Supreme Court.
I think the impact of today's bad ruling will be far more negative for this country than the positive impact of a win by him for equal marriage rights.
Kudos to him for working to obtain equal marriage rights for ALL Americans...... but he was successful today in destroying democracy in this country.
The guy's an enigma.

2. I don't understate anything.... It's critically important |
|
Ted Olson, as I said, is on the CORRECT side in fighting for equal marriage rights!
But he basically argued for the end of democracy as we know it before the supreme court today.
I think just about ANYTHING pales in comparison to that!
As for the use of homosexual vs GLBT... I'll edit the OP. I meant no disrespect.

Yes, the Citizens United decision is a disaster. And the dichotomy you raise is truly weird. Of course, I find abhorrent almost everything else Ted Olson stands for aside from his advocacy for equal marriage...
I'll edit my response as well.

8. I should add: what's even weirder is that the ACLU was on Olson's side in Citizens United |

it's only if you sort people into two categories - good and bad - that the shades of gray are not apparent.

Just another dirty rotten pug with his head up his ass. Just because he might support marriage equality doesn't mean he is less than a complete asshole because of it. Just remember this: his deceased wife was THE best friend of Ann Coulter. That about says it all.

16. Ted knows what he's doing |
|
He'd love to see the Supreme Court set a precedent that equal marriage is NOT a Constitutional right, and he sees no better chance to get that than the current composition of the Court. After yesterday's ruling on corporate money being able to go into politics, do any of you doubt that?
Rushing a case through the Ninth Circuit, which is almost guaranteed to decide in favor of marriage equality, is the fastest way to get Scalia's majority opinion on this. We'll be stuck with it for at least a generation.

18. No...he is NOT. The fascists have used abortion and gays as their BAIT for decades now. |
|
With yesterday's SC ruling they no longer need to fish for the stupid and ignorant vote.
The SC has Teddy boy arguing this case for gay marriage so they don't have to deal with it on the national level.
The fascists never really CARED about delivering for the ignoranti....they just needed their votes till they owned the majority vote on the SC and could remove all barriers to corporate rule.
