Olbermann's special comment scared the shit out of me! |
|
Normally, I tend to be an eternal optimist. My mom always tells me I am. But I will say this, what Keith said tonight in his special comment about what possibilities exist now due to today's ruling scared the ever loving shit out of me!
Don't get me wrong. I am a fighter. I am not one to surrender easily. I never have and never will. But what possibilities Keith said exist now I did not even think about until he explored them. Am I panicking? No, I'm not going to panic.
But I am going to say if there ever was a real threat to democracy, THIS is it and may be THE biggest threat!
No, I am not going to roll over. None of us should roll over. If anything, as I recall somebody mentioning a little bit ago, this is something that appears to have gotten the liberal base and many Democratic members of Congress pissed. If anything, we need to immediately make use of whatever tools we have at our disposal to curtail this any way we can.
Sitting around panicking won't help. We need to just take a moment to collect ourselves and then be ready to take this on with more strength and determination than ever.

it should scare the shit out of everybody in america, including the teabaggers. Keith was trying very hard to tell us where this is leading in very short order.
Stating this is worse than Dred Scott is really saying a lot.
It will be interesting to see how this news is covered in other MSM. Particularly Fox. The worst Supreme Court ruling in 153 years should be considered pretty newsworthy, don't you think? Like, more newsworthy than 9-11, Katrina, The Kennedy and MLK assassinations and the bombing of Pearl Harbor PUT TOGETHER.
If you consider this day to mark the end of the American way of life and the end of our Republic, anyway. I hope Americans finally start to realize that corporations are ruining our lives and our government just so these greedy sociopaths can bring home more money than they could spend in 100 life times.

12. Abrams' father is Floyd Abrams, an ACLU First Amendment attorney, and his mother is Efrat Abrams |
|
Maybe that is what Keith was referring to when he said this might his last comment.
Ironically, Floyd Abrams is known for his winning cases like The Pentagon Papers, he was Al Franken's lawyer against Fox, etc. What one would call a liberal.

it'll be interesting if Jonathan Turley will be put in KO's doghouse after disagreeing w/ him on this ruling. It's pretty obvious corporations would rather funnel money into and hide behind PACs that are aligned with their interests rather than directly attach their name and become a target of populist outrage, especially if they sell their product directly to the deeply politically divided American consumer. There's a lot of Democrats in the House that likely would salivate at the prospect of a big bank or health insurer running attack ads against them because it suddenly does them more good than harm and therefor damages the brand of the insurer/bank. Give the money to PACs and it's an inside baseball situation where only activists bother to see who is behind the curtain.
By the way, this ruling was known by everyone well before this morning's fact and was obvious as soon as the court decided to take the case and expand how they'd rule on it, so there's a lot of faux outrage going on when they were silent as church mice in the weeks leading up to it.

28. I don't think it really matters |
|
I know it's bad. But the level of corporate ownership over our system was already high, and how much worse could it possibly be? How many of our current politicians aren't completely owned already? Maybe five in congress? Obama sure as hell is a corporate tool, and he was supposed to be the latest great hope for change. I don't think it makes a damn bit of difference in the long run. 527, advocacy commercials, free trips, shoebox full of 20's passed to help a legislator decide, it's all the same - politicians are gonna be bought.

25. Keith is losing credibility..... |
|
I used to respect Keith and was always interested in what he had to say, but honest to God, the man has developed a serious rage problem. A certain amount of anger and frustration is understandable, but Keith is seething most of the time, and it's uncomfortable to watch. When I first saw the title of the thread "Olbermann's Special Comment Scared The Shit Out Of Me" I actually thought it was referring to KEITH being scary! I'm finding him to be more crazy than enlightening these days.
