We are not doomed. Our Unions will be freed up because of the SCOTUS decisions |
|
I believe that it will be more difficult and less frequent for a public corporation to support a political party and candidate than it will be for a Union.
Private companies could do mainly what they wanted to do anyway through the individual owners and their friends, families, etc.
Public corporations are worried about upsetting their customers, shareholders and a host of other constituents. They can be pressured, boycotted, embarrassed.
A Union just wants to win for their workers and their causes. They are now much freer to do what they think is right
Call me optimistic, but I think freeing the Unions will in the long run be a positive thing for Liberals & Progressives.

22. Not only that, but as Keith Olbermann pointed out, all that's necessary is for |
|
these corporations to use their new power of free speech to simply install legislators who will outlaw unions. End of union problem.

8. I have faith in labor. I really do. |

Their decision making processes are so much more straight forward than corporations. On single issues, we will be out spent, but on candidates, have some faith.
Please have some faith.

We saw scalia help select the last occupent, we went through heal and a lot of fear from NSA who went through our phone records and threatened ups and to make the point ransacked our home because we would not deny what we has seen on election night 2000 and that was the shredding of our ballots at our precinct before any counting even started in fla ye the fux noise was there and showed the clip after the supine court had ruled that that godamn bush sob 'won'.
There is a very slight possibility that the congress can find their ass and impeach several members of the Supremes .....so slight and they would have to find good, really really good evidence.
Shit..

we cant even get richard trumka on national news shows. there is already a disastrous marginalization of labor in this country for decades. i am fully with you on believing in the people and the message, but they dont have the money.

3. Our unions will be wiped out |
|
they are already down drastically from what they were in 1980 when Ronny took over and started this shitball rolling. corporate dollars will trump labor and labor will end up on unemployment insurance after the jobs get sent abroad or scabs shipped in to replace them

|
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 10:42 PM by Libertas1776
if foreign and multinational corporations can, evidently, donate to campaigns, can foreign and international unions donate as well? I mean, hey, workers of the world unite, right? Maybe we can see how genuine that workers solidarity over in Europe or elsewhere is when they are afforded the ability to directly help out fellow downtrodden workers in America.
On edit: I don't think they would go for it.

7. Unions have limited cash. And there aren't that many of them. Your spin about corporations worrying |
|
about embarrassment is lame. They can buy all the perception they want.

9. I have worked in marketing and PR. |
|
Protests, boycotts, LTTE's, etc get a lot of attention and are taken seriously. Not by all, but by most companies. It is so competitive out there that most companies are very serious about challenges to their image.
Look, that might not mean Walmart or Exxon, but there are still many, many companies that can be pressured.

Have you seen any of the big companies and banks look 'embarrassed' the last two years?
They don't CARE what people think.

Eventually, every state will be a "right to work" state. They'll do everything they can to weaken the unions.

19. The corpses will buy the law to make unions unlawful |
|
The same way they will make speaking or meeting or agitating against corporations will become life prison sentences or executable offices against the faschit *sic state... Unless we do something quick and likely violent and permanent to their rulers err leadership.

21. I'll buy that - plus I wanna see this giddy corporate SCOTUS over-reach compete... |
|
With what will be a rising well-spring of organized and yes - corporate, chartered as such - but with focused truth in advertising, tedious opposition research, fact checking and rapid response. Americans already do not respond to corporate messages deemed too cheesy or less than truthful, stupid products or spoke-folks and such i.e. politicians. So those products aren't bought either no matter how much money is spent. They go straight to DVD and corporations know it. They spend mountains of money to prevent that from happening; they can waste mountains more trying
Call you an optimist? Fine, then call me one too cause I can see a day when the corrosive judicial oddities of Scalia, Alito and their three tenors are melted away as they re-visit the folly of their own bias against The Constitution
