Poll question: Do we really have an earthquake weapon? If so, how should we deploy it?
Hugo Chavez insinuated that we caused the Haiti earthquake when we tested our supersecret earthquake weapon.

Do we really have this kind of military technology? How should we use it?

9. My former employer (which has started making very questionable products) has just announced...
...an electric snuggie. (Not Snuggie branded, but a ripoff.)

I'm kind of embarrassed that I worked for a company that is now trying to rip off the Snuggie.

11. I'd agree with quaking Jay.
But NBC would probably prop up his corpse and put him on at 11:30 anyway. (His interviews would be just as intelligent as when he was alive.)

3. Other: Get Real.
NO, we DON'T have the ability to make earthquakes, short of burying a nuke deep in a fault line.

Herr Hugo is out of his fucking mind. Must be all that sulfur he smokes.

and there is no evidence whatsoever that Chavez said that. On multiple threads.

4. IF, and that is a big IF, we do have the technology,
we should NOT use it to level, crush, or destroy anyone. We should find ways to use the technology in situations that would save lives as opposed to destroying them.

Of course, what we should do and what usually really happens are two different things.

I still say Other: Save the technology, if it exists, for good use, not to kill, maim, and destroy.

Fuckit.

"Aperture Science: we do what we must, because we can
for the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead

But there's no sense crying over every mistake
You just keep on trying 'til you run out of cake
And the science gets done, and you make a neat gun
For the people who are still alive"

13. The US had a theoretical CDI seismic weapon.
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 01:46 AM by MUAD_DIB
Whether it was ever built is beyond me.

It was dubbed Spear Chucker (sorry, that was its name from what I have heard) and was based on using a hyper velocity javelin-shaped metal alloy missile.

It was meant to cause a small earthquake to knock out Soviet military runways.

The missile itself was solid metal, and the energy released from the impact was supposed to be enough to cause limited damage on a superficial level.

It wouldn't have been able to penetrate more than a few hundred feet on impact.

Like the Neutron bomb it was never build. :eyes:

14. Call the White House. Demand ONE MILLION DOLLARS! or we destroy a city.
Not a very good city, just a small one hardly anybody will miss, just to show that we're serious.

21. Why would we even bother hitting Haiti with an earthquake weapon?
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 02:24 AM by backscatter712
Assuming such a weapon even existed, why would we hit Haiti with it? For testing? Really, it would be much less messy to do testing out in the middle of nowhere, like Antarctica or somewhere in the ocean (in such a way as to not cause a tsunami).

An earthquake out in the middle of nowhere would do little more than cause a blip in the press and blogs, and official statements can contradict them and call such reports into question. Even then, such a weapon would probably cause weird readings on seismographs around the world, thus even testing a weapon in the middle of nowhere would jeopardize its secrecy.

This entire theory doesn't make any sense. This is waaaaaaay out there in tinfoil hat land...
