1. oh that's brilliant. not.
I doubt he can win re-election in this climate let alone win so much as 1 caucus in a primary contest.

2. I think if some of those who are doe-eyed Republican followers actually
LISTENED to him, he might garner more support than we think. Like Perot -- appealed to a broad swatch of people.

3. IF Obama doesn't start playing hardball with the Republicans, we may just have
to draft someone. And, as Tweety referred to Grayson, Captain Cojones is someone who might have broad appeal.

I'm still hoping Obama will see the light -- Although I love Grayson, I think Obama is better suited to the position.

riches kind of guy, a real self made man.He won in a very conservative district and it seems both Dems and Repugs like him. He speaks his mind and shows no fear.

15. I think we all want to be told the truth, and to know we have someone who is
fighting for our rights. Dems and Reps. Or most of us, anyway. :7

17. I wouldnt characterize FL8 as "very conservative".
It was -3 for the Dems registration wise when Grayson started. His excellent campaign organization pushed that to +1 for Dems and he won by 4%.

22. Thanks for the info. The articles I read classified it as such. It was also
stated to be in a candidate bio so I just assumed that it was, having no knowlege of Florida myself.

30. then you know whereof you speak! I too have worked on several
congressional campaigns as well as other races and have done a lot of voter targeting! Obviously, you know the voter makeup of that district. you were really lucky to have such a great candidate. How do you think it is looking for his reelection? If he runs for his house seat and not something else? Will it all depend on redistricting?

33. It's hard to say now that corporations can throw millions of dollars around like pocket change
Edited on Sat Jan-23-10 12:37 AM by ddeclue
but generally he's doing well and his opponents are a bunch of nuts who don't know what they are doing while Alan has a very excellent campaign manager that knows how to run "on the ground" races and Alan has been doing decently with fundraising.

I think in 2012 he will have a problem if we can't prevent the usual Gerrymandering that goes on here in FL but we got Fair Districts Florida on the ballot and the two leading candidates for Attorney General are both Democrats and the Gubernatorial candidate (Alex Sink) has a good chance of winning as well so I think we might be able to save Alan's seat in 2012 also.

34. Thats wonderful! I also expect Alan is about to get a huge bump in out of state money!
But yeah, this corporate candidate thing sucks really badly. Lots of folks will be hurt. I am glad to hear than Alan isn't likely to be one of them.

4. I keep saying this too and he's actually a friend of mine but he'll say NO
for 2012 at least as far as I have ever heard him discuss future plans. His only future plans are to get re-elected in 2010. Perhaps in 2012 we can talk him into running for Bill Nelson's seat if Nelson will step down in 2012.

If the Republican state legislature redistricts Alan out of a favorable district in 2011 (which is very likely) then he WILL have to make some sort of career decision if he wants to stay in politics but he doesn't "need the job" and could simply go back to private practice in any event since he is independently wealthy.

I tried to convince him he should run for Florida's senate seat when Mel Martinez stepped down last year but he said it was too soon since he had just started as a Congressman. Assuming we still have a Presidency in 2016 though, I wouldn't count him out.

8. I think, if he (and we) become convinced he's the only way to keep this
country from finally going off the cliff forever, he might consider it. I say this because from my vantage point, I get the sense he has a very strong belief in what's RIGHT and what's FAIR. If the Repubs take over, we'd never see 'right' or 'fair' again. It would be a true calling, and I trust him enough that he would do the right thing.

But that's conjecture and looking ahead at what MIGHT be. We'll see how it goes. :hi:

23. Yeah better to cheat on the American people with the Health Insurance giants, right?
Who cares if Obama promised us Hope and Change and delivered us the opposite.

The man can give a pretty speech, never mind that it's all just lip service.

10. Weren't you a really big Hillary supporter during the primaries?
Or do I have you confused with someone else?

Because if you are the person I think you are, I'll have
to assume that your suggestion, good as it may be, is
being made for bad reasons.

24. His corporate legislation was the only bright spot in yesterday's news.
I was so proud that we had at least one congress critter who took a real stand. It likely won't pass but my god, the chutzpah it took to do that.Grayson showed real audacity and that behavior needs to be supported. And he did it with wit, intelligence and humor!

32. Grayson/Dean 2012!
A real progressive ticket is what we need. No more DINOs or DLCers. I am going to vote for/write in a progressive in the primaries in 2012.

In the general election I will most definitely vote for Obama but at the rate he's going I will hold my nose in doing so!

Edited on Sat Jan-23-10 05:57 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
He has the area Republicants in a tizzy.

But a large reason for his electoral success was his opponent, Ric Keller, was under an ethical cloud and Grayson was able to spend somw of his own miilions on a campaign.

I don't see him running for president in the near future.
