Is it time for the Herbal Tea Party Movement? |
|
The left needs to wake up to the fact that being a loud mouthed disrupter is an effective political tactic. We need to start showing up at Republican meetings and loudly demand why they voted against all the reforms we have needed over the last year. We need to get in their faces and make it to the evening news. Call them on every vote they used as a weapon against Obama instead of in the interest of average Americans. We need to demand that "our" tax dollars not go the the war machine as vocally as they demand that their tax dollars do not fund abortion. There are now so many clear distinctions of how these assholes have voted against American interest and values. We need to become as loud and obnoxious as the opposition.

1. It's time to actually organize Democrats and rally around one cause at a time... |
|
Instead of dividing our efforts and looking like a bunch of idiots. The only thing the GOP/TeaBaggers have going for them is their organization (no doubt actually organized from the outside... find out who paid for the Tea Party Express buses and that would be a huge clue) and their lock-step mentality.
We have a lot of issues. We need to list them, prioritize them, then hit them with everything we have!
The anger has risen and given us great motivation... now time to give it direction.

I have been a Democratic activist for a long time and the biggest problem that I think we have is that we are so fractured because we take on so many issues. As you said, the Republicans have focused on single issues to rally their base while we were still trying to figure out what our issues were.
One year, when I lived in Miami, we tried to do just what you said; we got together around 150 Democrats in a large hall and broke into groups and the groups determine what their issues were. Then those issues were brought together and coalesced. We found the top five issues and tried to build our campaign platform for the county on those issues. It sure looked pretty on the nice brochure we developed but guess what, it didn't change anything. Our diversity within the Democratic party is our most precious commodity but it is also our undoing. We have to learn to put aside agendas of our own special interests and needs and work as a complete entity.
Miami was overwhelmed by the diversity in this situation, obviously education, health care, jobs, these were all important, but then you had the Haitians with the wet/dry issue, the Cubans wanting a free Cuba, the GLBT community and women wanting equality, the list goes on. All extremely important issues that cannot be denied or not dealt with. Somehow we have to figure out how to bring all these needs together, find some sort of common thread, and make this work. If anyone an figure out how to make this happen, please share.
I am sick of the things that have happened during this last week and of the congress in general, Democrats and Republicans. I have always felt that campaign finance reform was the only answer to getting legislators who would actually work for the good of the people. Then the ^%$&*$ Supreme Court threw this nation under the corporate bus. Something has to happen or we are truly screwed.
PS: Love the Herbal Tea Party movement...we should do this

6. I prefer thinking of our insurgent movement as a coffee klatsch |
|
Discussing and working to solve problems together, instead of just screaming and yelling like a mad tea party.
