School board reverses expulsion of Willows student in gun incident

GLENN COUNTY, CA - The Glenn County Board of Education has reversed a decision to expel a Willows High School student for having two shotguns and ammunition in his truck parked off-campus.

In a unanimous vote, board members rescinded the one-year expulsion of Gary Tudesko. He was expelled by the Willows Joint Union School District in November for the Oct. 26 incident.

Tudesko, 17, was kicked out of school after a school security dog alerted to the shotguns and ammunition in his locked truck on a public street next to the school's tennis courts. Tudesko had gone duck-hunting with a friend before classes and told administrators he didn't have time to take the guns home before school started.

Tuesday, Tudesko appealed his expulsion to the county school board. He was represented by two attorneys hired by a group of gun rights advocates.

Attorney Chuck Michel argued that school administrators had no jurisdiction because Tudesko did not possess the weapons on school grounds. But an attorney for the school district, Matt Darlington, said recent court decisions give broad latitude to discipline students before, during and after school hours both on and away from campus.

2. Good ruling. And I say this as a gun-control advocate.
He didn't park on school property, so the school board should have nothing to say about it.

3. I'm glad this got resolved before it went to court
And good for the board for showing a bit of common sense for once. This kid did nothing wrong. His shotguns were not loaded and the truck was not on school property.

Once again some dipstick school bureaucrat exceeded his authority and made a fool of himself.

The district can discipline students "before, during and after school hours both on and away from campus"? I'm a big advocate of public education and so it pains me to say this but this kind of shit has a lot to do with the increase in charter schools, private schools and home schooling.
