Californian Democrats Will Teach America a Lesson in November...
When we proudly elect Barbara Boxer back to the U.S. Senate and Jerry Brown to replace Arnold.

No teabagging out here. We may be upset with Obama, but we will be electing two uber-liberals and putting them in places of high power.

President Obama, these are the kind of Democrats you need on your side: proud liberals!

5. Good for you, goclark.
My post is tongue in cheek, but thanks for pointing that out to "we".

Obama will be better served by outspoken proud liberals than the backstabbing blue dogs who, if they lose, will be an improvement in my eyes.

And remind people of the GOOD OLD DAYS when he was governor before!

11. But, but, but UC and CSU are tuition-free*!
*-"tuition" means only the cost of professor's salaries. Everything else is now charged to students as "fees", which add up to -- roughly the cost of "tuition" at other state universities. :eyes:

I just saw a list of the top ten public higher education bargains. Not a single UC campus made the cut. :(

16. And that is really sad.
Our great UC college system, which I took advantage of a million years ago, has been eroded away after 8 years of George Deukmajian (remember that clod) and 8 years of Pete Wilson (Prop 187) and Arnold (fill in the blanks there).

The list that you mentioned and that "news" makes me sad. That really hurts young people and their dreams.

We all know out here that the UC system is a Brown Family legacy.

I am a huge Brown fan and I remember and am grateful.

21. Jerry Never Repealed Tuition!
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 05:17 PM by rwenos
Jerry Brown was elected in November 1974, my senior year at UC Berkeley. I continued on in graduate school for two years after that, and then my brother attended Berkeley for three years thereafter. No reduction in tuition from Jerry! (He graduated from Berkeley back in 1962, I believe, when the "incidental fees" were $100 per quarter.)

Jerry's a tightass. Don't expect any favors for the UC System, CSUs or CC's.

On edit: "tightass."

I guess India's better off than Californians! Oh wait, California is one of the more expensive places to live with some of the wealthiest people living there! Tell me why you haven't started taxing the rich? Oh, that's right Arny, and the Republicans have you held hostage with that side effect of prop 13. THAT'S what Jerry should fix! Fix what Prop 13 has screwed up!

Tell me why we spend so much money on Iraq if we don't have money?

Kick her upstairs out of national legislative offices! She can't be much worse than Arny, and we can get someone decent in the Senate to give us better national laws.

And if Brown can beat her ass, then we can get her out of politics altogether!

My dear fellow Democrat:

Maybe there's no teabagging in your neighborhood. There's a "Go Sarah Go" bumperstrip across the streeet from me in PV, and I see teabagging stuff all over Orange County every day.

Meanwhile, I hope you're right. Boxer is looking beatable right now, but the Pubs have nothing but midgets and RW crazies to run against her.

26. Different dynamic entirely.
Obama won by over a million votes last year. Brown is loved here (even by Republicans) and Boxer will walk away with her re-election. Sadly, homophobia was ginned up and it raised its ugly head, yet, in spite of the millions upon millions of dollars spent, in spite of the simpy wicked television ads, it still barely passed.

Californians voted down even parental notification with minors seeking abortion.

Boxer and Brown will carry the day. It will be good for the country.

Personally, I hope we lose the blue dogs. They are worse than Republicans because they are like worms within an apple.

Brown was elected barely 4 days ago and the smug assuredness that we can't lose still prevails.

Mind you... I don't follow California politics, but don't make the same mistake MA Dems made and sit back and think the race is a done deal.

29. Confidence.
I eat and breathe California politics. We are not smug. They have really lousy candidates and ours have oodles of money and are very popular with the voters. Californians know and like Barbara and Jerry. But your word of caution is a good one, but my message is that in this despair and gloom, it will be the progressives that will carry the day in November, not the blue dogs and DLC types.

40. Boxer probably, Brown I'm not so sure about
With Meg Whitman saturating the airwaves about how great she'd be as governor due to her Ebay experience (like not bothering to pay for maintenance and back-up systems despite recommendations from the suppliers, then having a tantrum when they overloaded and went down - I was working for one of suppliers' support organizations at the time - which says to me she'll do the same thing as governor: delay spending until things get really bad and then expect the mess to be magically fixed by whining to the feds) I've already decided that if she gets the GOP nomination I'm voting for whoever is on the Democratic ticket. However, elections in this state are largely driven by media ads, and I have a feeling the Republicans are going to drag out the old Governor Moonbeam tropes and we'll end up with another right-wing wacko in charge.

There are some very liberal pockets in California, but there are also some very reactionary ones.
