Arlen Specter just lost his election today.
If it wasn't already lost.

He told Michelle Bachman to "act like a lady". It's difficult to defend the crazy lady on just about anything but Specter was way out of line, from what I heard on the clip played on Hardball.

He may have had some residual support from some Republican voters but that will be gone by the time of the general election. Today did not help him. Also, many Democrats will simply not vote for him. I would say that he is the number one candidate with the chance of losing his seat in the next election. If Democrats are smart, they will defeat him in the primary, in my opinion.

1. People 'in the know' might applaud him for saying that to this woman

who has a few marbles missing.

Also, lots of people from PA probably don't even know who Bachmann even is.

Finally, I've read the rethug running there is ahead of both Specter and Sestak; the rethugs 'in the know' might take issue.

5. Normally, that might happen...
But Arlen will need some Republican votes to win the general and he may have lost those today?

3. I don't know, that would be a point in the plus column to me.
Although I was not a fan before, that made me feel better about him.

4. I thought he was fine
She was not being polite. She was being her usual loud mouthed rude self. Calling her on it was gutsy. I am not a Specter fan but he didn't screw up in that conversation, IMO.

9. exactly. She was being mouthy and rude, talking over people. BUT he needs to make sure folks know
the whole picture, otherwise the repukes will play the "act like a lady" as misogynistic.... They don't really care about facts, just soundbites

7. I think it's about time someone told a Repug to stop interrupting.
If you watch the Sunday gabfests you'd know how the repugs constantly interrupt and talk over Dems. Dick Armey was despicable to Rachel and Lizard -- she doesn't favor Dems with her interrupting, she talks over everyone. The "lady" part made we wince, but not him telling her to stop interrupting him. It's about damn time and I hope it starts a trend.

10. I think you're wrong. Yes he was using the language of an old man,
but Michelle is a rude nutball who interupts everybody all the damn time, and someone whould have put her down a long time ago! Besides, take a close look at his opposer sometime. I'm not necessarily a big fan of Arlans, but many of the remarks from his Dem opponent lately have really turned me off!

11. He should have just told her to act like an adult
And not left himself open to allegations of sexism. Or maybe just told her to find a padded cell?

15. I agree
He sounded patronizing and condescending. The clip will be played over and over. I think it will hurt him with women. I immediately thought of his comments to Anita Hill. The guys a misogynist jerk. I would have great difficulty voting for him.

16. Maybe he said what he said because he figures he has to either
stand up to the right or be defeated by their bigotry and ignorance.

I don't think Spector will be re-elected. And I think he has known that for a long time. He is too moderate Republican. Too starched collar to attract either radical Republicans or moderate Democrats in an election. He is too undramatic for today's America.

I think that he will be opposed in the primary -- successfully. People will be ready for a change.

And lots of Democrats do not trust Spector. He is a good man, but the time for his moderate Republicans politics is past.

There just aren't enough moderate Republicans to elect a candidate and Spector really isn't a Democrats.

20. I don't think that remark is a big deal in PA, but he will lose for different reasons.
He is worn out.

He is not trusted by many Democrats who see him switching only for the election. (He knew Toomey would beat him in the primary.)

Republicans certainly don't trust him.

Independents are probably going to go the way of MA.

With the SCOTUS decision, Toomey will get 10's of millions for his campaign for TV, Radio, Print media, mailers, GOTV materials.
