5. Senate Democrats ready to send more stimulus funds to states
Senate Democrats ready to send more stimulus funds to states

By Les Blumenthal | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — Linda Nguyen, the chief executive of WorkForce Central, has a message for Congress: "Main Street still has some problems. It's not over yet."

Nguyen's organization, which helps unemployed in Tacoma and Pierce County looking for jobs, has seen a 40 percent increase in the number of people seeking assistance since the recession began.

The $6 million in federal stimulus funding it received last year runs out this summer.

"We call it the cliff," she said.

Stung by a Republican win in a special Senate election in Massachusetts and the loss of their critical 60-seat majority, Democrats are putting a new stimulus and jobs bill on the legislative front burner, temporarily bumping health care reform aside. Senate Democrats are expected to unveil their $170 billion or so package this week.

"There is still a lot of desperation and hurt out there," said Nguyen. "There just aren't jobs out there."

Among those on Capitol Hill who are listening is Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash. With one in 10 people relying on unemployment benefits, food stamps and health insurance subsidies, Murray said the economic crisis is taking its toll.

"I know people are worried, I know their economic security has been undermined," said Murray. "This is a critical time."

The Senate proposal is expected to mostly mirror a $174 billion stimulus and jobs bill approved, with little notice, by the House in December. That bill provides more than $48 billion for road, bridge, transit, school, housing, airport and clean water construction projects. It includes nearly $27 billion to help avoid layoffs of teachers, firefighters and police officers as state and local governments grapple with their own budget deficits.

The House bill also extends unemployment benefits and health insurance subsidies for another six months and continues several loan guarantee programs for small businesses.

20. Did He Contribute to Haiti Relief?
It'd be nice if idiots with money, like he and his family, would try to make their marks by doing good things in the world, rather than using destruction.

I could say the same thing about republicans, but then, they don't do good things very often. The end result of most of their policies seems to be killing people, or allowing them to die, except abortion. They want plenty of wage-slaves to be born, then they want to ignore them from that time on.

10. And if this fails to distract while the
Supremes hand the corporations all the power, there will be loads of Brangelina this week. Remember to ignore the State of the Union, the mortgage crisis, unemployment, the increasing violations on civil and political rights because that voice from the grave will be competing with stupidity like Brad and Angelina haven't been seen together since ...cough cough...four days ago. :puke:

It's hard to take him seriously when you can clearly hear the 'wocha wocha wocha' sound of Pac-Man in the background.

but the prunes themselves...all I can think of is HUGE black beetles (without legs) and how they're all squishy when you chew them up.

But if he wants to audition for the show, that's really a bad way to do it.

PS...I wonder what his "style" would be, though...

Jazz? Rap? Blues? Country?

25. Rapid Fire PsyOps happening lately - I wonder if the Bushies have something big planned for us?
Edited on Sun Jan-24-10 11:12 AM by tom_paine
Who knows? But with Underpants Man and all the rest of the PsyOps, the chatter from our Corporate-Aristocratic-National-Security Masters suggests something big is coming.

Maybe, maybe not, but Kremlinology, which is the only way now to properly analyze the actions of the Americccan Empire, can be fun.

Maybe it's just a little squirt of fear/shock in the National Bloodstream to help clear out any lingering upset about the Bush Court's latest lawless decision, as per behavioral psychology and statistical psychology.

Bin Laden take credit for a FAILURE?

Not just a failure, a miserable joke of a failure run, not by a crack al-Qaeda operative trained in secret camps in the fields of Somalia or wherever, but the middle-class son of a doctor, if I recall correctly.

Dad phoned it in, but gosh darn it, nobody picked up on it, just like 9/11

My God, they just don't put the effort into these BushFilms Productions that they used to back in the 80s and 90s, did they? Look into the backstory of how Bush, Sr. outmaneuvered Saddam Hussein, who he previously had a very good prior relationship selling weapons to him. Google "April Glaspie memo Iraq" to look at a time when real tenderloving care and EFFORT was put into constucting The Big Lie.

but Bin Laden has been spotted up here already practising for Olympics ........ supposed to be top-notch at moguls, even with that one leg. No way no how he had time to make a video. Watch closely the ski coverage ....... he'll be the guy dressed in a robe and turban hauling his dialysis machine while flying over those things, should be amazing. Gawd I love moguls. Hope he doesn't win though, that would really p* me off.
