I view it. My wife and I find a good vid to be fun 'background noise' during certain activities. But do we "use it?" I dunno...do we "use" morning news shows? Do we "use" indi rock music? Do we "use" shows like Big Love and The Tudors on cable teevee? Your question in and of itself seems to speak volumes regarding what your answer is. Personally, I "use" porn the same way I "use" breakfast cereal or water or television or orange juice...it is just another one of the many aspects of my life, it is not a defining aspect.

and my favorite kind is smutty stories. I read them AND write them. That counts, as far as I'm concerned. (Though I would certainly disagree that they have *no* artistic value beyond the prurient).

That said, I sometimes enjoy the visual kind too, very much, and certainly don't look down on it, or on people who prefer it. It's just not the type of sensory input that works best on me - no value judgement implied at all.

That there is such a stark division drawn between "erotica for women" and "porn for men", which I think is largely artificial and arbitrary.

Refusing to consider sexual writing in the "smut" category achieves two things:

1. It allows some people to pretend the intensity and drive (and in some cases, sheer kinky sci-fi weirdness) of women's sexual imaginations is much less than it really is, and

2. allows some women to feel morally superior, and some men to put women on a "virtuous" pedestal, because of course we're too "evolved" to like porn. Porn is that nasty stuff that gets base, bestial MEN off. What gets US off is "artistic erotica."

especially when there's no 'getting better' in the cards.
the best i get to hope for is that it doesn't get any worse.
it's a condition called 'ankylosing spondylitis'- i had never heard of it until i was diagnosed with it at age 35.
(after having been mis-diagnosed for over 15 years)
it's a slow and painful 'natural' fusion of the spine.
i became fully disabled before i was 38.
i'll be 49 in two more weeks.
i've been on methadone pretty much the whole time.
along with a myriad of other drugs and potions.
but- it still beats being dead.
