Fly the American Flag
Edited on Sun Jan-24-10 10:55 AM by madmax
Now this is the kind of DU advertisement I wouldn't mind seeing as a permanent fixture on DU - Skinner??

Make a big statement.

I bought it and will proudly fly this flag in a silent protest to my Repug neighbors. They had a major fit when then saw this white family with a BIG Obama sign. We've only lived here for a year at the time. So, the assumed we think like them. Needless to say they don't speak to us anymore. Like I give a shit, lol

Please K&R ...please

2. I've found that pisses off military types
I don't want to disrepect the troops. Maybe I'm wrong but, a former Marine and retired cop was not a happy camper about it, although he disagrees with the war in Iraq.

9. Everyone is entitled to their opinion
An upside down flag is a sign of distress. No one but no one said a word about mine flying upside down after SCOTUS appointed GW Bush President in 2000..

5. Rec'd for the sentiment.
The action, while pure at the stage of intention, becomes something more than a symbol of diversified independence to those who use it in more sinister fashion. The Bushkies knew how to wrap their warped agenda in all things patriotic, holy and brave. They played on a nation's desire to see itself as loyal, faithful and courageous. The price we continue to pay for the lies they've told blows my mind daily. To quote John Coffey, 'and it's like that all over the world'. Men of many nations lurking in the dark recesses of governments who engage militant spin doctors to sell aggression. The power point presentations will generously employ symbols like flags as marketing tool, or a brand.

I'm struck by the notion that a clean canvas is hard to hide behind, and the idea that purity should be the intent a white flag. I know it's a universal image of surrender, but the only way that works for me is if it means what we intend to have of them.

If we're en route to becoming a global community, as a planetary public we must prove we are not a Pavlovian people to the powers that be or face being plowed under.

Tommy Lee Jones took part in a couple of different movies the year No Country For Old Men came out. The other was The Valley of Elah. By far in my opinion, the more moving and meaningful movie, something of a must see, but be ready. It's very heavy.

6. Now I'll have to find
'The Valley of Elah'. I hadn't heard of that movie but, then again anything too 'heavy' most Americans can't handle. Think reality shows and American Idol :puke:

Americans by and large seem to have the attention span of a gnat.

7. I worry that a gnat can be a little more focused when it has to be.
Robert Redford's 'Lions for Lambs' is another. Be curious as to your reflections, pm me if you've a mind to.

8. Definately will do...
The husband will want to see them, too. We have Netflix so I'm confidant that we can get them.

Wondering if a 'Must See Movie' catagory could be added to DU. Hell, we have Cooking and Baking etc. Movies would be a good maybe a little synopsis.

I'm always up for new ideas as long as I don't have to implement them ;) Besides, I'm a computer dolt.
