Can we please stop forgetting the Truth around here and knock off the fear mongering?
There have been at least 2 posts of a Raw Story article that says Dems are going to drop the pre-existing condition ban. This simply isn't true. The Raw Story article cites the concern of a blogger over the fact that a NY Times article talks about the ban of PEC on children, but not adults.

How about, instead of posting rumor-mill stuff like this you call your Congressional Reps and say you won't vote for them again if they drop the PEC protections from the HCR Bill.

Likewise, there is another wildly rec'd post running around here that says Dems have abandoned people with PEC for 6 months. Guess what? That post totally down-plays one key fact: that the people who can't join the high-risk pool are people who are eligible for COBRA because they've been covered by a creditable plan within the last 6 months. And guess what? Instead of making them spend 18 months on COBRA, they only have to spend 6 months on it before joining the Federal high-risk pool.

These are just two examples of how the truth is being ignored around here. There are many more. Can we please knock off the doom and gloom and Dems are evil bullshit? This is *Democratic* Underground after all. Let's lay off the fear mongering a bit and point out the truth for a change.

2. The point is not about worrying, the point is being made about lying.......
Why folks would lie about such a ridiculous assertion is beyond me.....
or maybe, fearmongering is prevalent for some who don't want
Democratic Unity of any kind, and at any cost.

4. That's hardly what the OP is saying.
There is a lot of stuff posted here that a little research shows not to be the case. We have postings from everything from reliable sources to sources that are deliberately lying and everything in between. Far too often, posts are made without any due diligence being done on the source.

Truth is pretty much the measure. Whenever I see something that seems outrageous posted, I go to the source given, then branch out to find out whether the source is biased, ignorant, or deliberately telling lies.

Then I decide whether the post is correct or not.

Do you really think that everything posted here is correct and true?

7. There is NOT much posted here that's untrue
When there is, this community acts QUICKLY to debunk and/or get rid of it

Now, there are a lot of OPINIONS here that constitute bullshit....but as you say, consider the source.

Just another way of calling me a cheerleader without using that word.

17. I wouldn't know about that. I post replies, one post at a time,
and try very hard not to draw conclusions about individual posters. If I disagree with a post, I'll post that in a reply, regardless of what screen name made the post. I suppose that makes few friends for me, but that's not really what I'm here for. I have lots of friends I can see, talk to, and touch.

5. I never consider Raw Story to be reliable unless I've checked
in other sources. It's not called "Raw" Story for nothing. That site will post just about anything it can find, with a preference for the bizarre and shocking. I'd never use it as a source for anything, and pretty much always consider stuff sourced there to be questionable, at best.

Some of it sticks. But mostly they're throwing stuff at the wall. :)

10. They seem to grab a lot of stuff from blogs. Then, when you visit
the sourced blog, there's no further tracing that can be done. Those things, I simply dismiss out of hand. Hell, anyone with a computer can fire up a blog at no cost whatever and write any damn thing they please on it. Many do exactly that.

Blogs are not original sources, almost universally. They are opinion, and that's a far different thing from normal reporting of information. Blogs are not news, for the most part.

11. Hmmm, and there is still a bill that passed the House with a PO in it.
The fact that the Senate couldn't cut it has less to do with Obama and more to do with a handful of Senators who would rather side with Republicans.

Exactly how is Obama going to convince them to support a Public Option?

12. How did Obama convince them to filibuster drug re-importation?
Looks like whenever something Obama wants is threatened, he has no problem whipping the Senate into line.

19. If it's a little early for fearmongering...
...it's also early for assuring us that this story "simply isn't true." Whether or not such a proposal ever sees the light of day, I would bet that it has already been kicked around.

20. Well...
you can't say something is true without evidence. And the onus is on the person making the claim, not the person refuting it for lack of evidence.

21. Sure.
Can't something's not true without evidence, either, for the same reason. "Unproven" or "unfounded" would have been fair calls.

26. These are stressful times for many.......
....and anxieties run high. That light at the end of the tunnel looks more and more like a black hole! It's certainly not as fun to post with all the tensions and negativity around here, but it's not just here...it's everywhere. Municipalities are struggling, states are struggling, entitlements are struggling, and everyone wants more to provide less. I think DU is used by many as a place to unload some of those tensions, and that's a good thing, I suppose. I'd rather they release it here than let it affect their 3-D lives as much.

27. The times will only become more stressful and desperate if we abandon reason and embrace
knee jerk reactions without care or thought for the facts.
