You know, we need that money here at home, etc.

I think the more people see the big money being raised for Haitian relief the more this will turn into resentment. The Friday night telethon threw a spotlight on this.

1. Yes, there are desperate people in this country, too
but our desperate people can find shelter if they're not particular and food if they don't mind standing in line at a mission or food pantry. They'll go hungry and cold from time to time but they'll have something.

People in Haiti right now have nothing. What little they had was wiped out in about 30 seconds.

There will be some resentment here. People who are feeling desperate often don't understand that other people might have it a lot worse.

6. Its very, very powerful. I think, more than anything else, its responsible
for the Reagan revolution, the "hatred" of liberalism, the Bush presidency and the attempted take down of Obama and the Democratic Party.

It all boils down to the demise of the Fairness Doctrine and we will never be able to get our message out to all parts of the country until its re-introduced.

3. I've seen it on Facebook
usually posted by people who also post anti-single payer, anything liberal stuff, so I'm taking the whining with a big grain of salt.

4. I mean over 150,000 people have DIED. There is no comparison.
Its just jealousy and the Telethon showed all the rich Hollywood folk and that is a red flag to a lot of small minded people.

It's depressing.

9. Explain to Conservatives that if we don't help Haiti, then Haitians will come HERE.
Tell them, "We're helping them OVER THERE so they don't come for help OVER HERE."

That's how to sell it to Conservatives.

11. They started it just after the quake as a near abstract: 'If & When Obama moves to help Haiti...
'...he'll only be doing so to shore up up splintered left flank and Lib/Pro credentials having failed at everything yada-yada' you know the rest - but now that Obama is engaged, and America as a result through him - they are insinuating that he is doing so because Haiti is black. These RW hate-media people and not just them but the whole GOP, men & women, really do act more like methed-out meth-headed crickets and spiders

So there's no point in trying to follow their nomadic, cranked-out cardboard goal posts

12. I've heard it in my neighborhood...
from the white, racist, supposed religious types. No sympathy at all. Wouldn't even watch the telethon, or said they had started to, then turned it off in disgust. That's what one of them said. I'm appalled...again.

13. I know, but in the past when I have brought up those very issues, they
were the same people who shot down those ideas too.

Very strange people.
