Would you support extending the Bush Tax Cuts if it ensured Democrats would keep control of Congress |
|
If the Democrats can take away some of the Republicans issues this would help them politically. The tax issue is one of them. What would they be able to complain about if the tax cuts were extended and a commission to reduce the deficit (which is supported by lawmakers on both sides) were put into place.
I'm not advocating either way, just asking.

2. I'd rather them start to try to fix things (end the tax cuts) and let the political chips fall |
|
where they may.
End the bush tax cuts and as the economy starts to turn up, they will get more votes.

Perpetuating the conservative attempt to bankrupt our country is the worst thing our party could do.
In fact I would INCREASE their taxes beyond the level it reverts to as a means to keep the very much needed entitlements (the programs Obama seems to be targeting for cuts) at current funding levels.

...and lose the next election, the republicans will just put them back. If we keep them, we're no better than they are! Why give the rich a cut when they are the ones bleeding us dry already? No, you remove those cuts and make the rich pay their fair share, even if it's only for a few years. At least that is more for the little guy in the interem, and god knows we need a break right about now!

"A commission to reduce the deficit (which is supported by lawmakers on both sides) were put into place."
Do you know what that stupid commission advocated by Pete Peterson is all about? Do you know the goal to reduce the deficit on the backs of Social Security and Medicare? Did you know the Social Security surplus right now is about $3 Trillion? That's $3 Trillion (with a T) that you and I paid to cover our parent's retirement and our retirement. The deficit hawks want to take our money and give it to Wall Street or just pass it on to the gubermint general budget and do away with our hard earned money that we put into Social Security.
Are you crazy? Take away an issue from the RepubliCONS by passing RepubliCON laws? Might as well put RepubliCONS in office if you are just going to their work for them as Democrats.
No, No, No, we didn't vote in liberals and progressives majorities to the Senate and the House to turn into idiot RepubliCONS and corporatists. We'd only be doing their sleazy work for them.

in other areas in which they are better than the Republicans i.e. the environment, education, foreign policy.
Both parties are responsible for the Social Security and Medicare trust funds being looted. I know there is supposed to be a surplus but it isn't there in reality.
There are about 40 Conservative Democrats in the House. The House is 50-50 Conservative Liberal and the Senate is about 53-47 Liberal.
I want the Democrats to stay in power because they are better in a variety of issues.

29. The only reason there isn't a surplus is they've 'borrowed' it. It's supposed to be paid back |
|
Now they're setting up a commission to show them the way to stealing it. If the Democrats don't roll those tax cuts back they are little better than the other party. I'd call restoring fairness to the tax codes the #1 priority in getting workers and the middle class back on their feet. And I do not think that letting the fat cats at the top off is popular at this point in time with any voters.

What is the point of electing Democrats if they do little if anything other than forwarding the Confederate party agenda?
Ensure Democrats keep control of Congress to mandate payment to a criminal cartel, coddling Wall Street, act as servents of Pharma and the insurance cartel, play footsie with Confederates for a year at a time for no fucking reason, to maintain the police state, to ignore justice, to protect the dragon hoards of the wealthy, and to raid Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid?
No, thank you very little. The Republicans seem much better suited for such a set of tasks if I wanted them done at all.

Both parties use Social Security and Medicare funds to pay for general expenses.

These tax cuts screwed the National Debt and didn't at ALL do what they were supposed to do - give the wealthy incentive to create jobs as a result. Didn't even come CLOSE.
So FUCK them. Let these bastards start sharing the burden. The TMTR is the lowest it's been in 75 YEARS. It's not like their lives are going to change one f'ing BIT as a result, and don't let them bullshit you that it will.

36. The Democrats (with a few exceptions) try to do what's best for the country |
|
The Republicans always do what's best for the Chamber of Commerce types.
The Democrats are better at providing a safety net for the poorest of Americans. The Republicans couldn't care less.
The Democrats believe in using knowledge when it comes to foreign policy. The Republicans believe the answer to every foreign policy problem is to go to war.
I don't believe in throwing it all away because 1 or 2 issues.

Without tax increases the only thing left in that commission's recommendations are going to be stealing our SS and Medicare. I see no reason to worry about electing Democrats if they're going to continue to let the uber wealthy mooch off the rest of us and cut social programs. To me, fairness in the tax structure and support for a social safety net are at the top of my list of why I'm a Democrat.
