Nebraska lawmakers seek to ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
LINCOLN -- Nebraska lawmakers could become the first in the country to attempt to use a 2007 U.S. Supreme Court decision to ban second trimester and late-term abortions based on assertions that some fetuses experience pain during the procedure.

The bill, introduced to the Nebraska Legislature on Thursday, would bar women from getting abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Abortion-rights’ supporters called the bill a blatant breach of U.S. Supreme Court precedent that they say clearly establishes that the viability of fetuses ” not whether they experience pain ” determines when abortions can be performed.

Abortion foes counter that the ruling, which upheld a federal ban on partial-birth abortions, opens the door for such a ban because it suggests states have an interest in protecting fetuses.

They also argue that because the decision upheld a ban on a procedure that could be used on fetuses before they were deemed viable, the viability issue was discarded as the sole factor in determining whether an abortion could be performed.

1. I am so sick of these fucking nosy bastards.
They have absolutely no clue what really goes on in doctor's offices.

All they care about it protecting the fetus - no matter WHAT the diagnosis. This is just sick.

2. They think this will stop abortions?
It won't...it'll just drive them underground, at great risk to the women involved.

Damn those lawmakers.

6. Religious fundies and conserva-whackos need to keep their nose out of everybody's crotch
and maybe worry about the well-being of humans who are actually already here.

I don't recall the sermon where Jesus told his flock to go worry about everyone else's NAUGHTY BITS.
