President Obama To Freeze Salaries Of Top US Government Officials
WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--President Barack Obama will freeze the salaries of top officials at the White House and in other federal agencies, an administration official said late Tuesday.

The freeze would likely save $4 million and affect around 3,000 workers. Obama also will eliminate bonuses for political appointees. Both moves are likely to be part of Obama's State of the Union address Wednesday night, the official said.

"At a time when families are tightening their belts and businesses are making tough choices, the president is asking political staff to be part of a government that is more careful and responsible with taxpayers' dollars," the official said.

This year's pay freeze broadens the freeze Obama implemented a year ago on White House staff making more than $100,000. The freeze now also will hit appointees throughout the executive branch.

Hey. social security beneficiaries got no cost of living increase, and we're makin' a lot less than $100K. If there's no inflation, the top 2% don't need a raise either.

4. The only possible issue I see:
Many federal employees have their pay capped below the agency heads' salaries...but the employees' raises are often set by contract.

In agencies with higher-paid employees, capping appointees' pay could trickle down to affect workers.
