First-Grade Girl's Braid Cut Off by Teacher
This is a about a couple weeks old and not sure if anybody posted it. It just sat in my email; I've been quite busy lately. Anyway, just in case it hasn't been posted yet.

A Milwaukee teacher at Congress Elementary School is under fire and may face disciplinary action after she cut off one of her students braids.

According to Helen Cunningham, the mother of seven-year-old first-grader Lamya Cammon, her child's teacher reportedly grew "frustrated" by the girl's absent-minded playing with her long, beaded braids. She called the girl up to the front of the class.

"She said, 'Don't play with it anymore or I'ma cut off the rest,'" young Cammon told reporters. I went to my desk and cried, and (other students) was laughing. She threw it away...

1. Under fire and may face disciplinary action?
This woman should be fired.

This is the kind of thing that went on in the 50's.

5. "Disciplinary action"?
Man, I can imagine my mother in this situation. That teacher would be showing up for work with two black eyes and not a single hair on her head. That'd be her disciplinary action.

I had a first grade teacher who would have done that. She pulled me off the chair in reading circle because I crossed my legs. The school didn't do anything with her. She was a drunk and a prominent Dr.'s wife. I ended up on nerve meds until 4th grade, when I got the strictest teacher in the school. BUT, I loved her. She didn't have the 'fly off the handle' Exorcist-type temper.

7. What is it with teachers cutting hair?
That was a no-no even back in my prehistoric school days. Now this is the 3rd story I've heard about.
