NPR makes me want to puke
During all things considered they had 2 people talking about the HCR. Both opinions were 2 different shades of the Republican view. Today I get to listen to the dulcet f#cking tones of John Boehner burping his propandist tripe into my ear!@

3. Well that's because you're not looking for an excuse to feel offended.
If you had a bigger chip on your shoulder or a more pessimistic outlook on life, you would see the vast conspiracy too.

14. I dunno
I came into that report in the middle of it and didn't know who the guest was but I almost spun the dial because I thought I had landed on the Rush Limpballs show.

Seriously, it was propoganda and it was on what used to be a decent radio station. I am glad that Minnesota Public Radio pretty much spun away from NPR several years ago. I still send MPR checks. NPR gets squat.

Now the CBC (canadian broadcasting corp) is great radio and news if you can get it.

4. Locally here in NC , Diane Rehm has a talk show out of
Washington/MD area..I had been a fan for years.
In the last few though she always has an ogre who sounds oh so reasonable
from Publico or some other rightwing stink tank. I have stopped listening.
I listen for news which is usually pretty up and up, but more and more they sneak in right wing bullshit. Thanks the to rpigs cutting funding and insisting that their soiled view of the world is given a hearing on Librul radio.
NPR was never Liberal it was truthful I am sick to say this is no longer the case.

9. I actually heard Diane Rehm
say "The pendulum has swung too far the other direction." Meaning the country has become too liberal. This was after Obama had been in office for less than 100 days. So she has bought into her guest's message.

Diane's a good progressive by any standard.

These days she generally has 2 right wingers to one centrist. Very seldom anyone from the left unless its about arts.

6. I Agree...
I enjoy listening to Wisconsin Public Radio which has a variety of local and national shows that are highly information and play it down the middle...they do what Stephen Colbert would refer to "the truth having a liberal bias".

They have their weak moments...some beltway crap that plays off the day's talking point, but it's almost always offset by reports on issues far too complex or just not "sexy" enough for the corporates.

5. About NPR, I feel the same.
Two different shades of the Republican view is exactly what I see on any controversial topic they cover. It was the same on the stimulus discussion as it is on health care reform.

And before the election they allowed Frum (?) to go on and on about ACORN rigging the election. The guy claimed ACORN was under investigation in every state for voter fraud. The guest then claimed the presidential election would certainly be settled in the courts like the 2000 election. The host did not challenge a single word this propagandist spouted.

I'm sad to say NPR no longer has ANY credibility.

22. Too bad the Rs are not investigated sigh.
Hell even George Wallace felt that the power had swung too far "right" and into criminality and that was in 84.

7. The head of NPR used to be the head of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty
He's a propagandist of the first order. Media Matters has demonstrated that more than 60% of the talking heads that discuss politics on NPR come out of RW think tanks.

All I remember is that during the Bush administration, NPR broadcast story after story about how masterful the chimp was. Never did I hear any criticism whatsoever of the job he was doing. It was surreal.

13. Yep. I have a friend who heads up the news department at a local PBS station
her bosses are hardcore Right Wingers. They don't allow her to do any stories that are obviously critical of their party or positions-but naturally, anyone is welcome to slam anything vaguely "Liberal".

25. Actually, that's quite a bit
Edited on Wed Jan-27-10 12:56 PM by Frank Cannon
When you're talking about people coming straight from RW think tanks. I'm not talking about 60% of the people on there just having to happen conservative viewpoints.

ON EDIT: 63% was the actual figure. That's close to two thirds. Sound "fair and balanced" to you?

18. No, No, No, You're Wrong!
I'm sorry that you got a bad example of NPR programming.

I listen to NPR a lot. Diane Rehm is one of my favorites, as is Terry Gross.

There's no other radio station that presents so many in-depth reports on serious issues. They feature issues that are never even touched on mainstream media.

They sometimes feature right-wing commentators in the interest of "balance." But, at least on the Diane Rehm show, they are challenged.

And I love that they don't bombard the programming with Michael Jackson, Tiger Woods, etc.

We need NPR. Don't give up on them, Just keep letting them know when they screw up.

in the last few years she frequently has some right tard on and does not even challenge their BS.

I used to respect her a lot. I still like the book section, but I don't even listen to that anymore.

19. Not long ago, someone I know and like told me he thinks NPR is a socialist network.
That frightened me. A lot. Because you know, otherwise he's a reasonable guy.

I really don't want to talk politics with him, though.

23. I turned it off this morning as soon as Boehner came on
NPR gets zero dollars from me after a hit piece they did on PA right before the election, in which the reporter couldn't identify one solid yes vote for Obama in all of northeastern PA (Obama won the counties in question by large margins).
