Candidate Insists Bible is Literally True

Bradley Byrne (R) said he believes that "every word is true" in the Bible and that his position was misrepresented in a recent Mobile Press-Register article when he stated "there are parts of the Bible that are meant to be literally true and parts that are not."

Byrne is running for governor and his comments "could be a concern in red-state Alabama, where nearly eight out of 10 Republicans identify themselves as evangelical or born-again Christians."

The newspaper stands by its original story.

24. Stance
Sorry, I'm new. . . my stance is that the Christian coalition is aligned with the wrong party based on a misinterpretation of scripture (i.e. literal instead of metaphorical) and a misunderstanding of Darwin. Furthermore, I see nothing in the Bible that supports any of the Republican stances (i.e. the big business emphasis), but I see a great deal in the teachings of Jesus that supports what Republicans would brand as a "liberal" agenda. Christ taught to love one another, not to judge your fellow man, help those who are not like you, and to treat others as you want to be treated. I see nothing in the current Republican platform that comes anywhere close to these teachings. . . so the entire affiliation between Christians and Republicans, it seems to me, is now based on the abortion issue. . . and while I see little in the Bible that talks about protecting fetuses, I see a lot about helping your fellow man.

6. Or: "I believe whatever most of my likely voters want to hear...."
or, perhaps he really does believe the Babble is literally true, either way- he's got a really good chance.

7. Of course it is.
If you believe the Bible is literal you don't get to slice and dice it like a theologian on crack. It's literally true, cover to cover, Leviticus included, among other books and stories in there.

19. There's somewhere between seven and eleven Republican choices for AL gov
As of right now there are some very heavy hitters trying to become Alabama's next Republican governor--a state representative, the state treasurer, Roy Moore and a few businessmen. Bradley Byrne was chancellor of the Alabama community college system--note the "was." He's also running on a "reform the constitution" platform--the Alabama constitution, that is; this constitution has 798 amendments and is the longest constitution in use anywhere in the world.

The only way Byrne thinks he can possibly win this primary is to out-Jesus Roy Moore.

25. I Love the People Who Believe In the Bible, But Not "Literally"
They stand and make fun of a jackass like Bradley Byrne (who more than likely doesn't believe a single WORD of the bible, and is only saying what is politically advisable in his backward, red-neck state), and all the while they continue on going to church each week, and congratulate themselves for understanding that the bible is just a metaphor, except for the parts about Jeebus, who is definitely the son of god and not some made up fictional boogeyman designed to separate the gullible from their cash.
