John and Elizabeth Edwards splitting, report claims

Wednesday, January 27, 2010 3:31 PM EST

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – John and Elizabeth Edwards have reportedly filed paperwork to separate according to a report posted on ABCNews.com.
Just last week, former Democratic presidential candidate and former North Carolina Senator John Edwards admitted that he fathered a child with a staffer that he hired during his presidential campaign.

Edwards confirmed this in a statement released to The Associated Press and the Today Show last Thursday after initially denying that he'd fathered a child during his affair with videographer, Rielle Hunter.
"I am Quinn's father," the former senator declared in his statement, as the second birthday of Frances Quinn Hunter approaches.

~snip~

John Edwards is reportedly spending a lot of time at his beach house in the Wilmington area.

He has already purchased a home for Rielle Hunter and Quinn in an affluent area of Charlotte.

Elizabeth Edwards still lives in the mansion the couple built near Chapel Hill, NC. She continues her battle with cancer which returned in March 2007 in an incurable form.

Wow, this must be absolutely heart breaking for Elizabeth. Sad, so sad. :(

1. Good for Elizabeth!
Gack! He bought a house in Meyers Park? That's the "affluent area" of Charlotte.

9. What about Myers Park? Don't know anything about the area.

I was just thinking it must be heart breaking for Elizabeth to know that JE bought the house with a clear intention to visit his daughter and mistress there. (Otherwise, why would they move to NC from CA?)

It's basically like dumping his dying wife and moving in with his new family.

11. Meyers Park: the Old Money section of Charlotte
Lots of old patrician families with money. Brick, wainscoting in the dining room, and leather furniture in the study.

Nobody too into publicity though. So Rielle and John are sure to provide scuttlebutt.

14. She's not the first "first" wife to have this happen
It's just too bad that it took her so long to figure him out..

4. What a sleazebag he turned out to be.
I can't imagine how their children are feeling about all this. EE is a strong woman, but the unnecessary bullshit from him has got to be tough to handle.

10. She loved the lies when they suited her.
She's just as guilty as he is when it comes to the potential peril they were subjecting the party to had he won the nomination.

NOW she's had enough of his lies? Now that he won't be president? Ha ha ha. Carry on.

12. She may have not loved the lies. He may have asked her stay so he could
be President. Also, she may have wanted to stay because she was sick. There are many variables that could have come into play.

15. Agree. She may have tried to avoid the stress of divorce until she no longer could.
It is already traumatic enough to deal with stage IV cancer. Every other negative event can be hugely stressful, especially something as serious as divorce.

As an aside, I love the fact that despite all of her money, she doesn't bother wearing a wig. Good for you, Elizabeth.

13. Anyone see WSJ's review of the Young book?
Not so much a review as a list of some of the seriously messed up stuff Edwards did while running:
