You know what? I needed that.
For too long in recent weeks, the public face of our government has been a cowardly, blundering, deeply partisan congress. All we heard was majority this, minority that, stalling, fillibuster, 60 seats, 59 seats, blah blah blah...and it made me lose heart.

Tonight, however, we watched our President face them down. He not only took the opposition to task, but his own party, the SCOTUS, the army, and even his own administration. Hell, he even made me feel guilty for not contributing to Haiti, even though I don't make much money as it is...

His message was: We can all do better. And when he said "we," figuratively speaking, I feel like he also included himself.

Maybe it was only a speech. But god damn it, I feel hopeful again.

1. We all needed that!
Let's hope that the tone of this speech is a sign of things to come.

7. I think your reaction speaks for many.

He spoke "to the people" and tapped some basic, traditional spirit. Hard to explain, but very important.
