Morning Joe- "Constitutional Scholar" Obama has no understanding of the Supreme Court decision
Edited on Thu Jan-28-10 06:46 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
Gosh, Joe Scarborough I wonder why the entire rest of the thinking world is upset with the decision and disagrees with you?
I put "Constitutional Scholar" in quotes to get the slight sneering tone of Scarborough.

"They're just afraid they won't be able to fund raise as much as the Republicans" added Mike Barnicle helpfully.

This is complete and total media BS/lies/smokescreen. They know where the butter for their future bread is coming from. They, or rather, their network and the media in general, are the major beneficiaries of the gold that will come raining down on them in the form of media buys. This was overt lying by the Morning Joe team. They need to be called out on it long and hard.

Sorry Joe, but YES, foreign corporations can now meddle without limit with advocacy ads. Their dollars are "speech" remember? You are as crappy a lawyer as you were a Congressman and are a talkshow host. Host is a good word since you exist to serve your parasitic media overlords. Try telling the truth rather than altering to suit your needs.

5. Mike Barnicle was a Clinton hater too.
I remember on the day after Columbine blaming Clinton's "lack of leadership" for the shootings. But what can you expect from a serial plagarist.

14. Barnicle is a convicted Republicon stooge plagiarist
No cred. The Boston Globe canned him years ago when they caught on to his corrupt ways, playing loosey goosey with the truth.

30. Barnicle lost mine long ago during the campaign..
He and Chris Matthews can't get over the fact that the country is not like it was in the sixties and they keep bringing up shit about the President and the country which they know nothing about..

2. the day after that supreme court decision
I watched specifically to see what Joe, Mr "Man of the People", would have to say about it. His response was basically that Obama was a hypocrite because his bread was being buttered by the corporations and he got Wall Street donations. That was his only response. There is an element of truth to it, but that's as far as he let his opposition go. He knows that his fake populist shtick is really just a strategy against Dems and when it comes down to it, Joe knows where his bread is buttered too.

And that's why the GOP street walkers love it so much. They were afraid that without an unlimited ability to prostitute themselves they wouldn't be able to compete. Corruption is what keeps them in business.

6. This frame by Barnicle is pretty shocking.
Edited on Thu Jan-28-10 07:24 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
No, they're just afraid that the government is blatently for sale for whomever can pour enough "free speech" onto the airwaves and print media to pollute and sway elections.

It's about Swift Boating being enshrined as the vehicle of elections in the future. Smear ads, billboards, "docudramas" and the like raining down on us right up to and through the actual election day. No accountability for truth telling, so that elections will be altered and if anyone even bothers to fact check later on, it wil be too late. Damage done.

I see only one way to protect oneself and that is to TURN OFF the media sources. Trusted, truthful, impartial voices will be worth their weight in gold in the future. The media that benefits from the upcoming garbage won't even care of viewers turn them off. Viwers are just an inconvenience needed to raise advertising dollars - maybe they won't even care about viewship if they get the dollars regardless.

Alito shaking his head was just denial of the obvious.

11. They are the major, actually, the ONLY beneficiaries
They will GET the unlimited dollars for any and all "advocacy", smears, propaganda, lies that the corporations will choose to spend to advance their own agendas and favored candidates who will push those agendas.

15. Actually the FCC has limits on the number of ad minutes
that can be sold in an hour. And stations have limits on the number of political ads they will sell.

19. Given that to be true,
the costs for these ad times will now become such a bidding war that the cost to run a campaign will skyrocket.

Candidates will now need even more money. The money's got to come from somewhere.

27. No because the FCC has rules for that too.
All political commercials have to be charged at the same rate and that rate is determined by the lowest non-political rate charged for that time period. Thus stations don't make much money off of them.

35. Money does not equal speech
corporations are not individual citizens, even if they have "personhood"; they are owned by a broad array of individuals with various opinions (and it's illegal to "own" a person anyway). How hard is this to grasp?
