Ok now I'm a bit worried. Feingold trails former WI governor in hypothetical Senate election matchup

"One more Democratic senator who has long been regarded as a safe prospect for reelection may be facing a challenging year in 2010.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in Wisconsin finds Republican Tommy Thompson edging incumbent Russ Feingold 47% to 43% in a hypothetical U.S. Senate match-up. Five percent (5%) like some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

Could it be that Feingold's support for the Senate bill has made him a target? Let's hope things change for the best. We can't afford to lose Feingold.

1. Thompson isn't even in the race
I think the Republicans are overplaying their hand thinking they are taking all these Senate seats.

9. He's not saying that he isn't either.
He's almost certainly running this Fall... the question is whether he's running for Governor or Senate (or, he said, mayor of his home town).

Polls like this are intended as a "nudge" to get him to run.

I think you're overly optomistic if you think that there aren't several seats in danger.

10. Never said there weren't seats in danger
But the Republicans are just about claiming they are going to take over every Democratic seat and it's unrealistic to even think that will happen.

12. Enough are in real danger to warrant very serious concern.
It has gotten to the point where it's possible (not likely, but possible) that we could even lose the Senate (or get close enough for an expected party-swap to make a difference).

To make things worse... we have far more seats to defend in 2012 than in 2010. This was supposed to be the easiest of the three classes for us. A year ago it was expected that we would pick up another couple seats.

2. We don't like Tommy!
I don't know who they asked, but if he ever ran for the Senate he'd mobilize the Democratic base big-time!

3. Thompson - he was #2 in the 'white men named Thompson running for prez'
a couple years ago.
I would note that Rasmussen is the repub party pollster and anything they said should be taken with a grain of salt around the rim of a margarita.

4. Don't worry. Be Happy.
I'm sure the folks in Wisconsin will take care of business. You Missouri folk can relax. :)

7. Please, No Rasmussen

Rasmussen is a right-wing organization founded by an evangelical nutjob with a singleminded agenda: to flood the ether with "polls" of dubious merit in an attempt to drive the media narrative against the Democrats. Democrats ALWAYS trail in Razz polls - - always. Don't let them bother you for a minute.

Besides, Thompson isn't running.

8. Tommy would rather stay where he is
as a highly paid health care executive rather than become the most junior senator with no hope of rising to importance during the rest of his life.

11. Every seat is in peril. When the corporations dump 10's of billions into the house
and senate races, we are going to be hurting.
