1. Here's a question. If even a liberal icon like Feingold can have a contentious reelection, what does
that say about the idea that the simple solution to all of Obama's/Democrats' troubles is to be a righteous liberal?

This is a serious question and not meant to be snarky at all.

4. It means that we should push for good policies and not worry about how they are labeled.
The opposition is going to call us "socialist" no matter what we do so we might as well do the right thing.

5. I would say that Feingold is paying a political price for the conservative
behavior of the rest of his party. No doubt that's largely my own bias speaking, but in this case, there's little else to go with.

6. it's a perfectly reasonable question.
my best guess is that in a two party system it's sort of inevitable that a significant number of people simply ping pong between the two parties, and it's no secret that the party in power gets blamed in bad times.

Honestly, with the recent SC decision and with the economic crisis, I don't think there are too many safe dems in the country.

8. An excellent question
I don't have the answer, but my hunch is that Obama is playing his cards right.

20. The answer very clearly is that the problem isn't about ideology
People want solutions, that's what it's about.

24. So the voters think (more than before) a GOPer is more likely to solve a problem than Feingold?

26. Voters get angry when conditions are poor
They want to blame and punish someone for those conditions. I think if things turn around, the numbers will change.

23. Is it because he's progressive? Or an incumbent? Seems like both
sides are pretty well fed up with incumbents this year - too often we've been lied to, ignored while whoever got sent to DC panders to the big money and forgets all about the little voters back home - at least until it's time for them to beg for money & votes again.

I really think it's the incumbency issue and we're going to see more of it as the year goes on. Heck, around here, we've got a teabagger primarying Virginia Foxx - because she isn't conservative enough!! :puke:

"Say No to Government Run Healthcare"

+

"$10.00 Pizzas, Any Size"

What a country!

(Interesting poll numbers though)

I have a feeling that Feingold will not take a vacation during his campaign.

7. Democrats MUST campaign for every vote this year.
They also need to pass good legislation.
Much of the results will hinge on the economy in the fall.

15. Medicare Part D....
Thompson reportedly threatened to fire an actuary who had the correct figures for how much this was going to cost.

That's Thompson's weakness - he was the guy who make Medicare Part D happen and he lied in order to do it.

25. I'm in Wis. and Thompson stinks to high heaven.
He was a terrible governor, and when in the federal gov't, he was the one who said that it wasn't anthrax that killed the first guy in Florida...then lied about the Plan D.
