Commercials in Keith's pod cast of Countdown? OK, then count the pod cast |
|
views in the ratings, already.
I watch Countdown on pod cast and have for many, many months. This is the first time there have been bona fide commercials in the pod cast, which is is ok with me. The pod cast should be revenue producing. But if we are going to watch commercials, the Nielson (sp?) people should darn well count the pod cast in the ratings.
Commercials for
Liberty Mutual Staples Activia Light (yuck, sorry Jamie, I still love you) Boston Market Breath Right Alert USA Magic Jack Rachel Maddow (promo for her show)

1. Are you sure someone didn't just leave them in by mistake? That's happened before. |
|
Either way, I'll still watch Countdown -- with or without commercials. (As long as they don't start promoting MSNBC's weekend all-prison-all-the-time programming)

2. That may have been it, |
|
but, if leaving commercials in means that pod casting will be counted in Nielson ratings, I am all for it. :)

3. Honestly, I don't understand why they don't do it. |
|
Don't get me wrong, I prefer my KO commercial-free, but there's no more captive audience than someone listening to/watching a podcast while driving or working out. They're gonna watch every last one of those ads.

5. I doubt that they put the commercials in there for free. |
|
If they charge for the commercials, I'm sure the advertisers have a damn good idea of how many people listen/watch them.

6. Not Quite How It Works... |
|
They do count Podcast downloads...but that's a separate deal and has nothing to do with Neilsen. They strictly monitor television...over-the-air and cable. They don't count those who record the newscast on a DVR or VCR...just live bodies at the time its aired.
The commercials are "value added"...spots placed in the podcasts as a bonus to those companies that spend money on the various NBC networks. This world is changing as there are more people like you...and as television and internet begin to merge (convergence technology)...the introduction of the IPad the other day is the latest step in that progression.
Expect in the next couple years a revision on how viewing is rated as more and more people move away from "live" TV to podcasts and other forms of watching.
