President, then Senator, Barack Obama did not vote for mr alito's confirmation.

When the President-elect Obama made a courtesy call on the justices shortly before his inauguration last year, Alito was the only member of the court not to attend.

Then Senator Obama was correct in his NO vote for Alito. Meanwhile, much of the rest of the Democrats wanted to "keep the powder dry" for more important things.
