Ambinder: Pentagon To Announce Some "Don't Ask" Details Next Week
"The Pentagon is with us," the official said. And Geoff Morell, Gates's spokesman, e-mails me to say that "The Department leadership is actively working on an implementation plan and will have more to say about it next week." So -- Obama's pledge to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell was more than words -- he's instructed the military to get it done as soon as Congress repeals the law. A Senate hearing is set for February 2, featuring testimony from Mullens= and Gates. An outside hearing is set for February 11. Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) doesn't know if he has the votes to cross the 60-person threshold in the Senate, but the expected endorsement by Mullen will make it difficult for opponents to argue that the military brass isn't ready.

1. As a prior Marine and Army retiree it's high time
This is my humble opinion, is definitely one of the biggest cultural travesties, and screams hypocrisy. Especially in light of all the announced homosexuals that have had stellar careers, and have made great sacrifices, in what are truly trying times for Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines. The tired GOP argument/s (Duncan Hunter)both are extremely demoralizing and make little sense. I take my hat off to those that have bit the bullet and served, even though it has been at their peril. Just to mention one extreme tactical blunder: Kicking Soldiers out whom are needed overseas, after they are trained, at 1m plus to speak Dari, Arabic, Pashtu, etc. I've also had it with self appointed politicians speaking for the actual military members. There are bigots and naysayers in every walk of life, but in my experience, most are o.k. with it. This is actually one of the issues that myself and a few arch-conservative buddies actually agree on. How's that for irony?

2. Excellent!

And if the Thugs do filibuster, they'll have to be very careful about it, because they won't be able to hide behind some abstruse, policy-based argument for it. Their bigotry will be on fulll display.

3. There should be a gay military member who can speak Arabic very well to do a rebuttal-
in Arabic.

4. If they want to filibuster the 2011 defense appropriations bill, LET THEM.
As per Barney Frank, that's what the DADT repeal is going to be attached to, probably in late March.
