Dispelling another Repug myth! |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-29-10 12:49 AM by sledgehammer
Businessweek has a great chart showing the market change during inaugural Presidential years. And guess which party occupies 5 out of the top 6 spots? That would be the Democratic party!
1. 1933 (FDR-D): +96.5% 2. 1945 (Truman-D): +30.9% 3. 2009 (Obama-D): +29.5% 4. 1963 (LBJ-D): +21.6% 5. 1989 (Bush-R): +19.6% 6. 1993 (Clinton-D): +19.3%
So I posted this on Facebook and someone immediately commented that you have to take into account which party controlled Congress in each of these years. The implication was that surely it must have been Republicans who enacted business-friendly policies.
Thanks to Wikipedia I was able to quickly post these stats in response:
1. 1933 (FDR-D): Senate +23 Dem / House +190 Dem 2. 1945 (Truman-D): Senate +19 Dem / House +50 Dem 3. 2009 (Obama-D): Senate +19 Dem / House +80 Dem 4. 1963 (LBJ-D): Senate +32 Dem / House +80 Dem 5. 1989 (Bush-R): Senate +10 Dem / House +85 Dem 6. 1993 (Clinton-D): Senate +14 Dem / House +82 Dem
Not a single case of Repug majorities. Needless to say he has not responded!
Disclaimer: I'm not saying that market performance is an indicator of how well the country is doing, how well the President is performing, or how working Americans are faring. I'm just putting this info out there to dispel continuous Repug myths about the markets hating Democratic presidents and congress.

8. Another myth that desperately needs dispelling. Democrats give us |
|
Deficits.
The record will show Reagan had the largest deficit in Hx at end of his terms. Senior Bush added to that deficit. It was so bad, Bill Clinton had to abandon his plans upon inaugeration and started to work on Deficit. Bill Clinton cleaned up the Mess and left the country with a surplus.
Do you find it interesting that Media never mention these facts.
I have to chuckle at how quickly the GOP have gotten Deficit Cutting Religion since they lost the election. This proves if you say something over and repeat it often enough the Media believes it.

9. Yep, Dems clean up Repug mess more often than not. |
|
Works perfectly for the repugs. Since Dems are so tied up cleaning the shit, they have less time and options to institute progressive policy.
Oh, and the Repugs totally screw up the middle class while they are creating the shit.
