I didn't think the defense shenanigans were going to amount to much, but you never know when you go to trial. All it takes is one juror who says, "Yanno, maybe in his mind, Roeder really was . . ." or some such nonsense. It gives me hope that the universe of Roeder-style nutjobs is just a little smaller than the popular media make them out to be. Certainly they're noisy and publicity-seeking, and the popular media fall all over themselves to pay attention to them, making them seem more numerous or sympathetic than they have any right to.
Good for the judge, too.

22. Usually do pretty well |
|
In criminal trials, as oppose to civil trials, jurys usually do the fairly "mainstream" thing. They wrongly convict people all the time, but mostly because the defense sucks, or the prosecution stacked the evidence or something. TV loves to make a big deal out of "sympathetic juries", but alot of lawyers will tell you that really, they tend to be a bit conviction prone. It doesn't help that our jury selection procedures tend to lean that way.

"YES".
Umm.. OK - Guilty.
Just because you don't like the job that the guy does, and you may not agree with it doesn't allow you to kill him. This is not new!
