Why is the vile Phelps clan so fixated on gays?
Edited on Fri Jan-29-10 12:30 PM by redqueen
I know they protest military funerals for who knows what stupid hateful reason... but it seems most of their time and energy is spent obsessing about gay people and anyone who defends gay people.

Sorry, I just saw a parody of Lady Gaga's Poker Face made by one of those morons and it made me wonder about this. It's just so stupid it's sad. Homosexuality is hardly mentioned in the bible. It just doesn't make sense.

Edited on Fri Jan-29-10 12:34 PM by redwitch
Apparently God damns all of us because gay people exist.

edited to add: I have no idea why. But talk about a homosexual agenda!

6. And gays are different from them because
1. They don't procreate "normally"
2. They don't represent real manhood in their point of view.

7. Look at Daddy Phelps
Can we all say "latent?"

Remember, god never said anything about homosexuals and certainly didn't raise that "sin" to the level needed for a commandment. It was the priests who hated it so much.

17. Actually....
...the Old Testament is pretty freaking clear on the topic. Lev 20:13

However, the bible is simply a work of fiction designed and marketed by those that would govern people's lives.

As for Phelps...he is simply crazy and probably so deep in the closet that he has a Narnian zip code.

I understand your point, but to people that believe in the OT - the priests are just the mouth pieces of god. So it is the same thing.

38. Could you discuss the offense
I'm 100% serious because it would be helpful in a critical analytical way.

There are instances of people who push down their true feelings. Psychologically, some probably can't handle the cognitive dissonance. This dissonance makes them angry and they try to punish others who embrace their true feelings.

Right?

Thanks in advance.

42. because its blaming the victim and excusing straight from bigotry
what your essentially saying, is that the hatred towards gays is from gays, essentially stating that straight people have no responsibility in this. if the largest amount of hatred of gays came from gays, then most of society would be homophobia free. that is hardly the case.

the few cases in which it is really internalized homophobia, stand out because of their strangeness. thats how memory works. we remember the spectacular rather than the mundane.

homophobia is a societal problem created by the majority, to blame gays for it, directly or indirectly is insulting

13. Everyone, everywhere & any disaster -natural or man made- is God's punishment
-9/11; the 2004 Tsumani in SE Asia; the flooding of New Orleans; the high-profile death of ANYONE, especially if there's a "gay" angle..etc. The earthquake in Haiti is probably God's punishment. The only consolation is that the Phelps "church" is mostly one family- and when Fred finally croaks, the placard waving maniacs in his family will start coming out with stories of abuse and coercion that they were forced to behave the way they do. Hopefully, the public will reject their excuses.

I think people have a right to be what they want, and do what they want with their lives, as long as they don't injure anybody else.

You know the old saying about people....I think they do protest too much. It seems those that protest too much about something must have a secret yearning in the back of their mind to be that.

26. Looking at it from a behaviorist approach -
Somehow they get positive strokes for all this. They MUST be making money on it - otherwise they couldn't afford to eschew actual employment to jet set around the country to protests. How are they making money? There are plenty of people in this country who hate gays and applaud the Phelps' efforts. Why do THEY hate gays? They're part of a club of religion that promotes and rewards this thinking. The more virulent you are, the more "spiritual" you are. It really all comes down to religion at some point.

30. I believe the whole 'church' thing is just a scam
Phelps was originally a lawyer, and there are several more in his extended family. I believe they're taking an aggressive stance in order to provoke individuals, groups & municipalities into retaliating against them, enabling them to file lawsuits for violations of their civil rights. I'm grateful that nobody has attacked them with axe handles, turned fire hoses on them, or sicced dogs on them, as they'd stand a chance of winning big awards in court that would finance even more opportunities for lawsuits.

I believe they chose homophobia as their public persona because it inflames passions against their bigotry, and they're hoping for overreaction that could make money for them. Also, their organization is structured as a 'church,' so their property isn't taxed. It's all about the money, and the anti-gay rhetoric is merely a means to an end.

48. They read Leviticus 20, which is seriously bloodthirsty
All these people need to be whacked, according to Lev. 20:

Anyone who curses his mom or dad

Both partners in these adulterous relationships: another man's wife, your father's wife (there's enough reference in Leviticus 18 to the split between "your mother" and "your father's wife" to suggest plural marriage was VERY common back then), your daughter-in-law

Teh Gay

Marrying your wife's mom will get all three of you killed.

Bestiality gets you and the animal killed. No word on whether you can eat the animal, though. I assume not.

Marrying the daughter of either your father or your mother gets you and her run out of town. Don't have sex with her either.

Earning your Red Wings gets the two of you run out of town.

No eating unclean animals.

Kill any mediums or spiritists by stoning.

And yes, the Phelps version of Poker Face is pretty funny...especially where she sings "you ain't got" and it sounds like "you hate God."
