12. Being an effective President...
and the judgement of whether or not a President is effective usually takes much longer to determine than 1 year - especially when the President has this much crap to sort through. What I feel is dishonest and even suspect are people who are jumping on the guy before his agenda or plan has even had the chance to begin fruition. I am beginning to wonder if these same people wouldn't have done the same to JFK.

Far more than I ever thought possible. He's standing there holding a (mostly) reasonable and articulate discussion with the Repubs, not onlly minimally smacking them down but trying, really trying to listen and open doors. ON CAMERA no less! Wow! What a difference from the previous administration who NEVER talk to the opposition party.

39. I am a student of history. Putting GOVERNMENT before politics.... and stating it on the record.
Addressing the opposition to try and get them to become partners, putting it out there for the entire country to see.
Recognizing that the important thing is to work for the people and not to work toward your next election and say that with conviction. You tell me? What other presidents have truly said this and meant it? Jefferson comes to my mind. Post partisanship truly is the ONLY way to get to good government that is a true democracy.

46. Post partisanship is a cancer on democracy. A CANCER
Democracy is about the clash of ideas and interests. "Post-partisanship" is elite speak for "a system of political deliberation in which the wealthy's interests are the only ones taken into consideration."

52. You got it all wrong IMHO
Not listening and the "my way or the highway" attitude are the cancer of democracy as you put it. Post-partisanship means evaluating ideas and making decisions (votes) based on the merits of these ideas as opposed to strict party affiliation or political considerations. There different points of view, so differences will always exist. But as long as the sides are practically not willing to listen to each other not much gets accomplished.

55. You are talking about post-partisanship in theory. I am talking about it in practice
Really existing post-partisanship means that politicians only vote on issues that all agree on and avoid any real debate on issues that are controversial. This is absolutely disastrous to democracy and has given us the current shittastic health care bill. Post-partisanship in practice is just conflict avoidance.

51. You are mistaken
You are apparently a poor student of history. You keep citing Jefferson (a personal hero of mine) as an example of being NON-PARTISAN?!?!

The founder of the democratic party that was the resultant between the feud between Jefferson and Adams? The feud that was against the explicit direction of George Washington (the only non-partisan president)?

Partisan politics is war practiced by civil means. I mean when another party is intent on waging partisan politics, you accomplish less than nothing by pretending to be above it all and appealing to a mythical better nature of homo sapiens. You simply must out partisan the other side to ensure proper government for the people. Jefferson is one of the best examples of a devious partisan infighter.

Smarter than Reagan, Ford, Bush I and Bush II? Without a doubt. Smarter than Nixon or Truman? Hard to say. Smarter than FDR? Unlikely.

He's certainly the most brilliant president to take office in this century.

Which Obama, despite his high flying rhetoric, does not have. His moral spine is quite flexible (as we have seen with Guantanamo, the war in Afghanistan, and the Healthcare debate.)

54. Yes it is. It is only sometimes relevant.
The problems facing America right now are exceedingly simple and easy to solve. End the Empire, investigate the banks, and give equal rights to all. It does not require a brain surgeon or a law professor to know how to accomplish those tasks. It does, however, require a keen intelligence to justify NOT ending the empire, investigating the banks, and giving rights to all.
