Set your faces to stunned. James O'Keefe: "We just wanted to see if Landrieu's phones were working"
Straight from the Plumber reject's mouth himself:

"I learned from a number of sources that many of Senator Landrieu's constituents were having trouble getting through to her office to tell her that they didn't want her taking millions of federal dollars in exchange for her vote on the healthcare bill. When asked about this, Senator Landrieu's explanation was that, "Our lines have been jammed for weeks." I decided to investigate why a representative of the people would be out of touch with her constituents for "weeks" because her phones were broken. In investigating this matter, we decided to visit Senator Landrieu's district office – the people's office – to ask the staff if their phones were working."

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/onpolitics/post/2010/01/okeefe-i-could-have-used-a-different-approach/1

Then why not ASK and then leave? Why go into the phone closet, huh?

If anyone believes this story from the Lil' Plumbers, be sure to refer them to me, I've got some hot beachfront property in North Dakota that I'd like to sell them.

5. And why fake calls to the main line on their cell phones? Why not make real calls?
In fact they did not even have to go to the office. They could have just called and had their question answered. I envy the prosecutor who gets this dickhead on the stand for cross examination.

9. So you walk into the office, dial the number from your cellphone, and see if it rings.
Voila, you will know if the phones work or not.

11. That's it? That's all he's got?
I expected some grand conspiracy story how he got conned into this or that someone threatened him.

Nice touch with "the people's office", but no cigar.

CIA Headquarters are "the people's office", too. But don't expect to waltz in there, start fooling with the phone lines and anticipate no trouble.

14. I'm falling behind on the excuses
As I recall, first he wanted to tape Sen. Landrieu possibly saying derogatory things about the voters. Then O'Keefe was going to get her on tape throwing him out of the office, Mike Wallace-style. Then he was inspecting the premises for bugs out of an outsize sense of civic obligation. Or he wanted to take down the phone system so he could see how discombobulated the office would get. Now he's back to his outsized civic obligation, playing dress-up and trying to "test" to see if the Senator's phones were working. What's next? He heard a ticking time bomb, and just had time to gather the rest of the Mystery Machine crew and skedaddle over to Senator Landrieu's office to deactivate it before it blew her to Kingdom Come?

"And I would've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for those meddling kids!"

23. Didn't they show up dressed as phone technicians, though?
If they just wanted to ask staff if the phones were working, why impersonate repairmen?

Also, Landrieu said the phones were "jammed" and this asswad assumes it means "broken", but "broken" is not what the Senator said. By "jammed" she likely just meant they were getting lots of calls, so some people were probably having to call a few times before getting through, right? I really can't imagine any Senator ignoring a broken phone system for weeks just so she doesn't have to listen to constituents.

I feel like this guy is insulting my intelligence if he really thinks I'm going to believe him.

28. I think O'Keefe's lawyer wrote this statement.
It carefully and artfully negates some of the elements of each of the crimes the FBI affidavit accuses the teabuggers of committing. (Violating Sections 1036 and 1362 of Title 18). O'Keefe implicitly denies that they entered under false pretenses, which would be a violation of 1036, and that they intended and attempted to interfere with the phones, which would be a violation of Section 1362, which is a felony and which would make the violation of 1036 a felony also.

I doubt that O'Keefe could write such a legally helpful statement without his lawyer's assistance. I also doubt that a competent lawyer would let his client issue such a statement without at least reviewing and editing it first. And Michael Madigan is a pretty serious, fairly expensive and very good white collar criminal defense attorney.
