O'Keefe's story doesn't make sense for three big reasons.
By his own account, O'Keefe was intending to expose Sen. Landrieu as being inaccessible to her constituents by making the phone to her office not work. This story doesn't pass the smell test for me though for three big reasons.

1. By damaging Landrieu's phones he is undercutting his own complaint that she wasn't taking calls from constituents. What was he going to do, time how long it took to get her phones fixed?

2. There are a dozen different ways he could have gotten the result he was looking for without breaking the law. Why not just call her office a hundred times and show how normal constituents couldn't get access to her?

3. What would have been the end result for him? He was committing a felony on video. Even with the best result he would have never been able to show the video to anyone. He couldn't post it on the internet, or sell it to a media outlet without exposing himself. There was no way use the story without going to prison.

The pieces just don't seem to fit.

11. That one would be worthy of a Johny Cochrane-class prosecutor
in his (hoefully) upcoming trial.

"If the pieces don't fit, he's a lying piece of shit."

2. I agree with your sumnation. Simply call a bunch of times and see if you get through
But no, let's conspire to commit a felony and try to pass it off as "kids just funnin' around".

He is still twittering and posting on facebook, against the judge's gag order, so perhaps he feels he is above the law?

3. I cannot wait for this to unravel
The only thing that could make is juicier would be if we found out he was engaged to Tila Tequila.

And props to Rachel Maddow to connecting the dots. I am so glad she's on our side.

4. I don't think they intended to plant a thing
this trip.

Criminals always do reconnaissance prior to the actual criminal act.

They were casing the joint.

6. He is a sad delusional little boy
He convinced himself and others that the fabricated movie he scripted of his Acorn office visits was fact. Now he thinks he can fabricate his way out of a situation he was too ignorant not to fall into.

Undoubtedly his handlers had told him he had nothing to fear from prosecution.

9. he didn't damage the phones. He claims Landrieu did, and he was there to see why
Because of his advanced degrees in telephonics and engineering and bringing an actual telephone official with him.

No? well wth then...

10. Which story?
By my count so far, we've had:

1. O’Keefe wanted to surreptitiously tape Landrieu bad-mouthing the voters. That story was dropped pretty quickly.

2. Then we had it that James was trying to instigate some sort of outburst by Sen. Landrieu and tape it, a la the Dean Scream, which would have been every bit as phony, but no doubt lapped up by the popular media.

3. After that, it was that he and his pals were “checking” Landrieu’s phone system, apparently out of an exaggerated sense of civic obligation to ensure flawless communication. When that wasn’t any more stable than a Jenga tower, we were treated to another story.

And another.

And another.

And another.

Somewhere along the line, you’d think he’d lose some credibility with the popular media, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for the Teflon Pimp.
