John Edwards: 'Suspect'
The Orange County sheriff's office released today a copy of a report alleging a "domestic between spouses and larceny of wallet" on Oct. 10, 2008, at the home of John and Elizabeth Edwards. In the report, Elizabeth Edwards describes how John Edwards came to the home to eat dinner with his children after a sports event, Mark Johnson reports. She told him they were dining with the babysitter, and he had no business being there, according to the report.

Moments later, John Edwards challenged his wife’s comment and said the house was his, as well. Then Elizabeth Edwards said she saw her husband take her lime green wallet, which contained $320, credit cards and a Motorola Razr phone. John Edwards went down to "the barn," an adjoining structure that includes a full-size basketball court, for several minutes before beginning to leave, according to the report.

"As Mr. Edwards was leaving, he was asked to give the wallet back,” the report said, “and he advised that he did not have it." The report ends by giving Edwards – a former U.S. Senator, former presidential candidate and former Democratic vice presidential nominee – a new title: "suspect."

UPDATE FOR THE CONSPIRACY THEORISTS: The report had been kept secret since it was filed more than a year ago at the request of Elizabeth Edwards, the sheriff said. He cited a state statute that allows incident reports to be kept confidential temporarily in cases where the documents’ release could endanger the victims physical or mental well-being.

7. I wish ... then it could be said to all have been a bad dream
and it was really still 2005 - or better yet, 2004 and in a week the election would happen.

And I say that as a former Edwards supporter. I keep wondering if I missed any clues.

42. I have to say, that's the ugliest part of the house
That weird walkway between the two main structures. Well, the whole "house" is ugly really, especially since they clean cut the forest and there's not really any tress (except the couple they planted in front of the main house).

12. If I am not mistaken, in NC you have to separate for one year before
you can divorce. The only other way you can divorce in NC is "incurable insanity."

http://www.divorcelawinfo.com/states/nc/northcarolina.htm

So, in order for them to get divorced, they had to live apart for a year.

5. he said the house was his??????
I hope this isn't true,
because it reveals something more sinister
that doesn't help John Edwards at all.

The date 10/10/08 would mean what?
Weren't they together at that time?
Why wasn't he supposed to be there?

6. Um, Edwards went from the main house "down to 'the barn'... for several minutes" ?!?
I'd think it would take a good 10, 15 minutes just to GET to "the barn" --

or from the main house, would he drive there?

It's not THAT far. A quick measure of the photo says it's about the same distance as walking his entire porch and back. Add one more porch length to get to the door that is in view.

She was too trusting.

Believe me, she'll kick his ass in court.

And I hope she thoroughly protects her children's inheritance.

33. He really really really ought to settle...
this goes before a judge, and he's toast. His behavior has been nothing short of dispicable, and Elizabeth Edwards has carried herself with class and dignity. I hope her health allows her to spend many years enjoying her children and half or more of the fortune that her soon-to-be ex husband amassed over the years.
