Tim Tebow Super Bowl Ad May Be Based On Falsehood
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/29/tim-tebow-super-bowl-ad-m_n_442808.html

A commercial featuring Tim Tebow and his mother Pam that is likely to air during Super Bowl XLIV may be rife with inaccuracies, according to power lawyer Gloria Allred.

The ad, which is expected to promote an anti-choice message, will be based on the theme "Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life." The Christian conservative group Focus on the Family has paid for the spot. James Dobson, the group's founder, has a history of inflammatory statements and once said that gay marriage will "destroy the earth."

1. Watch how quickly this story turns into a "The Left is Bashing Tebow"
They'll clutch their pearls, get a case of the vapors and claim that were picking on a nice young man.
That we're blasting a man of impeccable behavior.
That we're maligning what happened to him because we hate Christians

3. If "Christians" truly acted like Christians, they wouldn't be hated.

6. That's isn't what the bible tells them.
They are told that the world WILL hate them.

For a surprising number of them... it's evidence that they're on the right track.

and usually not very good football.

28. Read someplace that in between ads, time outs, huddles, etc., the
total football actually played is 11 minutes.

It's getting to the point where I'd rather just DVR a game and then watch it later without dealing with all the bullshit.

I don't think you were going to watch anyway..

The biggest football game of the year and you won't watch because of a minute ad?

Silly

31. Solution: Write a letter explaining that YOUR television will not be turned to the game
And go watch it somewhere else. You've told the truth, eliminated on TV from their equation (all they really care about) and still you get to see the game.

done.

4. Much Ado About Nothing...
Let these asshats waste their money...better than going to groups to fight a woman's right to choose or the right of a person to marry the person of their choice.

This is an issue where minds are set...with a majority favoring choice, thus this ad may backfire as people are there to watch a football game, not be lectured to. Good chance many will be making a sandwich or a pit stop and never see the thing. So let them waste the money.

As far as Tebow...most of us could care less about what a college football thinks...only if he can win.

5. Just think, if the run the ad
Focus on the Family, Tebow AND CBS will be subject to lawsuits. If they can fine a network for someone's costume so called malfunction, (which they can't prove wasn't an accident) then boy what can they fine them for , for making an ad with a deliberate lie.

It is being said that Focus on the Family knew when Tobe's mother SAID she was told to have an abortion and she wouldn't, abortions even in the case of harm to the mother or child were illegal in the Philippines and against the law. But Tebow and Focus on the Family made the ad anyway.

I think, that if they fine people for ads and actions on TV this should be also. And the FCC can get into this. I would like to see someone sue Dobson for millions and millions of dollars for trying to promote lies.

24. Good Luck With That...
Damn thing about that Freedom Of Speech...you can lie or dislead and its protected by the Constitution. Inversely if the lie is exposed, then it hurts the credibility which makes any future messages less effective.

If we banned all messages and people who get on the airwaves and "lie", we'd have nothing but test patterns.

8. Is this a good thing?
Isn't the basis of the add "courageous woman sacrifices and saves life of future star" ?

Would it be better if the theme was "law making abortion illegal results in future star" ??

The first at least associates the positive outcome with a woman's right to choose.

9. Perhaps the doctor who recommended an abortion knew of the
illegality of same in the Philippines, but was also aware that travel from there was possible if she really wanted one.

10. This is the last time you will see Timmy Tebow on a super bowl telecast
Unless he gets a job selling hot dogs in the stadium.

But he'll never get there on the strength of his skills as a quarterback in the NFL.

This guy has Ryan Leaf written all over him.

20. Your subject line answers your question to a large degree
Ryan Leaf was a top QB prospect - in fact, in the same draft as Peyton Manning, and there was some lively debate over who would make the better pick - some analysts rated Leaf over Manning.

"Who is Ryan Leaf?" proves what a bust he was in the NFL.

12. May be rife with inaccuracies?
Because abortion under any circumstance has been illegal in the Philippines since 1930 and is punishable by a six-year prison term, Allred says she finds it hard to believe that doctors would have recommended the procedure.

14. Has anyone ruled out the possibility that a recommendation was
made to go elsewhere for an abortion, someplace where they were legal? Rrelocation may have been part of the recommendation.

17. Consider also that they are in the Phillippines because of their involvement in the ministry.
The Bob Tebow Ministry. I'm wondering whether the doctor knowing that it was illegal for abortions and even suggesting it would get into major trouble would suggest it to a rabid ministry?

We would need to know if it was a mainland or local doctor to get closer to the truth.

13. The idea of getting apoplectic over this ad is really curious to me...
These types of ads are everywhere. I doubt very seriously that anyone is going to say to himself "well gee! If Mrs. Tebow and Jimmy say it, then I had better re-evaluate my entire belief system...". Instead, people that like the message will get off on it, and the rest will be aggravated - big fucking deal.

If you don't want to see the ad, go get some more bean dip....

23. If the network were evenhanded about what ads they will run I don't think this would be an issue.
But the fact is that the network has refused to run ads from liberal advocacy groups, which certainly gives the appearance now of corporate censorship of a particular political point of view.

16. During broadcasts on national tv haven't they pointed out Tebow's
involvement with ministry in other countries? As if it was his own idea?

Well the truth of the matter is that his father has his own ministry. Even named after himself. So if the guy grew up in that type of atmosphere it was probably engrained in him. Sure it might be a good thing he is doing. But it is not the same as someone who was part of a family that was not that religious and didn't do much for other people. But better than someone convicted and ordered to do community service.

26. Well, only a few gay couples have been married, so the world
is only undergoing climate change.

It's kinda a fractional thing; if every gay person was allowed to marry the only thing I can think that might happen is...there will be lots of married gay people.

29. There are lots of gay marriage opponents in Mass...
who believe the state has broken off the mainland and is floating around all alone in the Atlantic ocean, in danger of being destroyed by a killer Tsunami someday soon.

And they're probably still waiting for the hordes of locusts and Deadly Foot Fungus From God that's our deserved punishment.
