For $50, castle is home for a lucky lord or lady

At 7,400 square feet, the seven-bedroom mansion in Athens is sometimes called a castle.

For $50 and a bit of luck, you can call it yours.

The owners, Dr. Ernest de Bourbon and his wife, Jennifer, are donating the 80-year-old estate to raise money for a Zanesville nonprofit agency that helps poor children with obesity and related health problems.

"I like to do things in an unorthodox way, a little bit differently," said Dr. de Bourbon, the owner of Artemis Laser & Vein Center in Dublin. "I didn't want to offer any old prize, but something that would make a real difference."

The contest, billed as the "Ultimate Life Makeover," is designed to revolutionize the life of the winner, who is scheduled to be announced July 4.

The winner -- to be chosen through a drawing -- will receive the title to the house, a new car valued at less than $20,000 and money to pay the income tax on the house. In addition, five years of utility bills and property taxes will be covered, provided that the winner lives in the house for those five years and maintains the original integrity of the home.

5. Not in Ireland
It's not even in Dublin, Ohio, where the doctor who owns it has his practice. It's in Athens, Ohio - a small college town in the SE part of the state. So I guess that means it's not in Greece either.

4. They hope to sell 36,000 tickets in this drawing, raise $1.8 billion for charity.
Sounds good to me, the house is appraised for $500,000.

Risking the 50 bucks on a slim chance of winning seems a worthwhile way to donate.

I like this idea.

7. Um.... 36,000 * $50 = $1.8 million. Still good 300% ROI on property for charity.
