Scott Roeder is yesterday's news; it's George Tiller who should be remembered
I've heard people asking why prosecutors haven't sought a death sentence for Scott Roeder. According to the man's own testimony this week, he contemplated the murder of abortion doctor George Tiller for months. How much more premeditation do you need?

Kansas's law regarding capital punishment is very narrowly drafted. Basically, a clean shot to the head, however carefully planned, doesn't rise to the standard.

And that's for the best. An execution would seal Roeder's status as a martyr in the small universe of zealots that believe he was right to murder a man for performing a legal medical procedure.

Better to let him languish in a Kansas penitentiary. He'll find soon enough that reporters no longer care to take his calls. Already, he's yesterday's news. The zealots will probably visit occasionally, and try to boost his spirits, but Roeder will just be another inmate, shuffling through the rest of his days.

Amen...RIP, Dr. Tiller.

6. I may have told you this before
but I have a friend whose wife is a doctor who worked with Tiller. She was tormented by OR as well as our former fundie state AG. It is a horrific story. Not as horrific as Dr. Tiller's murder but still awful. It is just heart breaking that anyone in a helping profession would be persecuted for helping people.

3. k and r for a most excellent point. it is Dr. Tiller, the women he helped, and the women who,
thanks to roeder, will not get the help they need who need to be remembered.

5. Sad, so sad...
...there are women now who might die or be physically harmed for life because of a life threatening pregnancy that was not terminated.

7. I could not agree more...
Sadly, Dr. Tiller will never get the memorial recognition that he deserves, for fear of eliciting more crazies... But, I will remember what he did.
