23. I don't know anyone who wanted Bush to fail
I know many lefties, a few righties and some independents of all stripes and no one I know wanted Bush to be a failure, and in fact many including myself were rather disappointed in his constant failures. So a more accurate thing for you to say, based on my experience, is that "that is the problem with the Republican party."

I get what your point is, but I disagree that all parties are the same. The Democrats often disagree internally on MANY issues. Hell, they piss me off on many issues, and I always try to express and communicate not only the disappointment, but also the good things. The Democrats seldom vote as strongly on party lines on many issues compared to the Republicans, and I largely think it is because of the nature of conservatism, that they are less likely to buck the trend internally.

Linking the president to the success or failure of the country is ingenious at best.

Did the poster mean ingenuous? If so, gotta give them credit for both the sentiment and the effort, even if I'm standing 180 degrees away on the political spectrum.

24. What was it they used accuse us of? Cheering for defeat?
I used to wonder what that would actually look like. Now I know.

But it was ever thus--Republicans don't give a good God damn about anything but power, which they use entirely to enrich their friends and punish their perceived enemies, which at this point is anyone to the left of Glenn Beck. The notion that these are responsible people who care about fiscal restraint and national defense and what's actually good for the country is just laughable. Or would be, if it wasn't all so fucking destructive, dangerous and sad.

26. Have You Ever Noticed..........
.........that whenever you talk to a typical right-wing mouth-breather, they can do nothing but cheerlead? They don't even know WHY they support most of the things they profess to support (or, more accurately, oppose). All they know is that they want "their team" to win the big game. They don't care about making the country better. They just want to crow about winning the big game. How else can you explain the fact that they were miserable through 8 years of unparallelled prosperity for this country, and ecstatic during 8 years of the worst times this country has seen in decades? And if you doubt it, just remember how they excused Bush from any liability for 9/11 (remember, he had JUST taken office; it wasn't his fault; he hadn't even had a chance to arrange his office furniture yet; et al.), and then compare that to how you think they would react had two frickin' BUILDINGS fallen down in September of Obama's first year. That's a person who isn't interested in the well-being of the country; they're interested in one thing--their "team" winning elections. That's IT. It's become one big sporting event to them.

48. A very few. Most of us have lived a lot with Republican presidents. We were giving Bush
the benefit of the doubt and some even, like me, despite everything I learned during the buildup to the Invasion and Occupation of Iraq, hoped he'd do the right thing right up to March 19, 2003.

The War is a deal breaker. U - n - f - o - r - g - i - v - a - b - l - e. He had my best wishes until he did that and he did that pretty early in his administration.

The War is so Evil that un-ending bottom-less contemptuous scorn is justified.

There is simply no comparison between Bush and Obama as to how contempt is deserved.

All parties and candidates have about a 20% group of people who are the exact same way. At least my quarter century in politics has shown me nothing different.
