Two guys kissing set to steal the Super Bowl show
The anti-abortion advertisement stars Tim Tebow, one of the nation's best-known college football players, and his mother, Pam, speaking on the theme "celebrate family, celebrate life". It sees Ms Tebow recall how she ignored medical advice to terminate her pregnancy with her now-famous son in 1987 after suffering a short illness.

Scarcely less controversial, given Middle America's quaintly repressive attitude towards public displays of homosexuality, is the proposed Super Bowl advert for Mancrunch, in which two men sitting on a sofa watching an American football game
appear to become suddenly attracted to each other. They promptly begin kissing. Its contents have been condemned by, among other groups, the American Family Association, whose spokesman, Tim Wildmon, believes it could corrupt the nation's youth: "CBS should not put parents in the position of answering embarrassing and awkward questions from their children while they're just trying to enjoy a football game."

1. It's my understanding that CBS has decided to not run the Mancrunch ad.

How horrible that parents might have to answer awkward and embarrassing questions from their children.

I wonder if there will be any ads for Viagra or Cialis?

Or how about KY?

Those wouldn't be awkward embarrassing, it's perfectly natural...right? But being gay isn't... :eyes:

Well Timmy, those Viagra pills help Daddy get a stiffy to pleasure himself and Mommy... Nothing awkward about that.

9. No, only ads dealing with abortion, a perfectly "safe" subject.
Nothing awkward or embarrassing there. :eyes:

2. Is this LBN? The kissing ad was rejected by CBS. Was that decision reversed?

3. That particular ad sounds very very "in your face"...Like the Tebow
ad the SB is neither the time or place. Inappropriate IMO.

6. Kissing on a dating service ad is "in your face"?
1. Bullshit. Nobody'd blink if a dating service serving hetero couples depicted a man and a woman kissing on a sofa while watching the game.

2. "in your face" is an odd bit of phrasing, here. Do you think about gay men in your face much? "Shoving it down your throat" (to use another seriously Freudian phrase beloved of homophobes everywhere) perhaps?

33. They're a LITTLE more tender when showing hetero kisses
If you google around you can find the ManCrunch ad...the dude on top looked like he was trying to lick the tortilla chip crumbs out of the other guy's tonsils.

ANY dating website ad is going to cause children to say strange things..."mommy, look! It's the website Daddy visits when you put the box of Kotex on the bathroom counter every month!"

11. Yeah, it is. That's why they pulled it.
It would piss off entirely too many people.

Why, and right or wrong, and all that can ALSO be discussed. But the fact is there would be pretty serious repercussions from the American viewers.

7. Okkaaaay. I use the term "in your face" to mean blatant. All I am
saying I don't think either of those ads is right for a Super Bowl game. Save the drama, okay?

8. Wait, did they decide to air the ad?
the irony is that the controversy is giving the ad and their business much more publicity than they would otherwise have.

12. Wasn't there a male-male kiss during the Superbowl a few years ago?
I think it was like mechanics or something, and they kissed over a Snickers? Or am I remembering wrong?

13. Yes, it was a Snickers candy bar ad
Good memory!

(AP) A commercial for Snickers candy bars launched in the Super Bowl broadcast was benched after its maker got complaints that it was homophobic.

The ad showed two auto mechanics accidentally kissing while eating the same candy bar and then ripping out some chest hair to do something “manly.” One of the alternate endings on the Snickers Web site showed the men attacking each other.

I remember seeing the commercial, but I couldn't remember if I saw it during the Superbowl, or before/after all the publicity it received.

23. It aired during IIRC
It was ok to show two men kissing: As long as they acted properly disgusted afterward.
Two men that don't act horrified that they actually came into contact with one another is apparently downright offensive somehow.

21. Ah yes...another telling moment about CBS's con-servative favoritism
. . .their story quoted the Wildmon, from the American "Family" Association, as if that organization is some kind of expert about the effects of media upon viewers. Why, this is the same AFA (with its inherent con-artist, con-servative leanings) that screamed about the audacity of the networks to air "Three's Company" back in the 1970's.

27. Apparently Tebow's Mom's story isn't exactly..... the truth
http://crooksandliars.com/susie-madrak/pam-tebow-liar-abortions-were-illegal

In her exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com, Allred slams the ad and CBS’s decision to air it, pointing out factual inconsistencies with Pam’s story. One glaring one is the fact that the act of abortion is totally illegal in the majority Catholic country of the Philippines – under all circumstances including rape and incest, and even without a provision in the circumstance that the mother’s life is in danger. The law has been in effect since 1930.

Allred says she believes it an impossible scenario to believe that doctors would ever suggested abortion as a viable option for Tebow in the first place. And when you learn that physicians and midwives who perform abortions in the Philippines face six years in prison, and may have their licenses suspended or revoked, and that women who receive abortions – no matter the reason – may be punished with imprisonment for two to six years, it’s easy to see why.

Wouldn't it be great if the Tebow ad was pulled and the Mancrunch ad stayed!
