Why the fuck would he do this?!?!

If the Dems are forced to pick a candidate, this race could end up worse than Coakley.

1. I think the idea is to keep out a gaggle of kooks
from jumping into an open primary. I'm not saying I agree with the logic, but I think that's the idea. Personally I think it is either health or scandal related and the timing wasn't strategic in that sense.

3. Are there any other Democrats in Indiana? Who is a possibility?

5. High-profile Democrats in Indiana are rare. There's usually just enough
for a poker game, if that.

Baron Hill is a possibility.

I've heard Joe Hogsett's name mentioned.

Bart Peterson, former Indy Mayor.

And one or two others.

None has the clout Bayh has. Bayh was leading in polling and has some serious money saved up.

Two weeks ago there was a chance of Mike Pence challenging for that seat, with Bayh trying to hold it. An Indiana acquaintance of ours said that it would have been a Senate race between a Democrat who was too much like a Republican versus a Republican who was too much like Hitler.

Now it looks as if both of those candidates are out of the Senate race and might possibly both be gunning for the White House.

4. Evan Bayh wants to seal his reputation as a chickenshit turncoat.
He's a DINO. Zell Miller with better hair.
