1. Good... now I don't feel like Charley Brown |
|
The whole thing seems like a big popularity contest, and those of us who don't post very much tend to feel undervalued by it all.
But what the hell... I'm practically a noob around here anyway.

I do know that part of it, really - I think I had 7 (at least one was automatic when I donated) that is the most I ever had. I just don't expect them but I love to give them out to people who don't have them or who I know had a bad year or whatever like that. If they already had 2 or 3 I just went looking for the next person. While I enjoyed receiving, the real fun for me is passing them out - wish I could have managed a bigger donation to do more but I was close to not being able to any at all this year. DU is my main source of news and information (and entertainment for that matter - I'm such a loser!) so I do like to contribute a little $$ to keep it running.
Even the popularity contest aspect doesn't really bother me - some people are popular because they deserve to be.
Consider yourself the recipient of a "hello" green smiley heart from me. ;-)

I appreciate the thought, and I don't begrudge the people who get hearts. Many people on DU cultivate tons of goodwill on the boards every day. (California Peggy immediately comes to mind.) Those DUers who receive lots of hearts have clearly earned them through kindness that is recognized and reciprocated.
As for me, I donate to DU at least once a year. I read DU just about every day and I post sporadically. DU is my starting point for most all political news. I value the site immensely and recognize that DU is truly the sum of the efforts of not just Skinner, Elad, Earl G and the mods, but of every single poster who contributes to the community. Even those of us who are less than prolific.
Again, thanks for the honorary heart!

I mean, I did enjoy them...
BUT....people kept giving them to me!
I had just gotten another one just prior to their deletion.....that made 53!
Enough already...
Give one to someone who didn't have any!

3. If it's any consolation, you didn't get one from me nor did any of the other |
|
big heart receivers. I gave mine to people who didn't have any, but whose posts I have enjoyed in the past and whom I consider good DUers. I really didn't have enough to give though to everyone I would have liked to.

4. You did the right thing... |
|
I was lucky enough to be able to buy many, and after I gave them to my friends, I looked for people who had none.
Thanks for telling me!

carting around 80 hearts was somewhat cumbersome, especially for my "+1" posts.....sorry to say.
